Hillary is lighthearted in response to 962-word New York Times piece on her "cackle"
CNN: October 3, 2007
Clinton tackles 'The Cackle'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton used the occasion of Wednesday’s endorsement announcement from the American Federation of Teachers to take a light-hearted crack at the New York Times over what the paper has dubbed "The Clinton Cackle."

"I don't want to go on too much longer, because it might cause me to laugh, and then you know, heaven knows what we'd hear about for the next week," she said at the conclusion of her acceptance speech to the laughter of both the AFT members and media present.

Earlier this week, the Times published a 962-word piece analyzing the New York senator’s use of laughter during interviews and debates. The article suggested different motivations for different uses of “The Cackle,” which the paper said was a term coined by Clinton’s friends.

"You gotta have a sense of humor in this business we're in," she concluded.

1. If it's a Democrat, she has to cackle. She can't possibly
chuckle, chortle, giggle or just plain laugh. She has to cackle, evoking images of witches and hens.

I'm getting really sick of slanted language.

2. So she's implying that her laughing is uncontrollable and/or genuine?
The laughing was clearly forced and staged so she could easily dodge questions and show contempt at the questioners. And a few more weeks of coverage on this is not what she wants.

15. It doesn't take much skill to realize what Hillary is doing is not real.
This was a focus-group, consultant-driven decision to start chortling like a banshee in every single interview. The Bob Schieffer interview was probably the worst. Here he is being disrespected (when he's one of the few respectable ones out there) and having to go through her incessant laughter. It looked bad. And their are hundreds of videos out there where you can watch it again and again.

5. Hillary is getting positively reaganesq in her ability to respond
to these things in a lighthearted manner. She's great, better than the head toss & "well".

9. I agree
I have been on the fence about who I'll support in the primary, but Hillary's response to such nonsense as the way she laughs and the blouse that showed "cleavage" is a real positive in my opinion.

I think the pundits spouting off about these things are the same pundits who criticized Gore for sighing.

I think pundits make those criticisms because they aren't smart enough to engage either Hillary or Gore on facts.

12. question
Who amongst us wouldn't laugh uncontrolably when a Fox News stooge asks us how come we're so hyper partisan?

I'm surprised she's still not laughing.

14. I'm getting mixed signals here. Does she "cackle" with mirth, or is she "cold"?

Don't worry. It's OK to say whatever the hell comes into your head about Hillary.
