Hillary Clinton's Man Appeal
Clinton Candidacy Makes Strong Gains Among Democratic Men

By ELOISE HARPER
Oct. 4, 2007

ABC/Washington Post poll released Oct. 3 shows that 48 percent of Democratic men — a rise from 29 percent at the beginning of September — support her presidential bid.

>

Mark Halperin, ABC News political analyst and editor-at-large for Time Magazine, suggests that her gender doesn't matter.

"Men shopping for a Democratic presidential candidate are looking for someone tough, someone smart and someone who can get the White House back from the Republicans," Halperin said. "Hillary Clinton right now looks the strongest on those fronts. The fact that she is a she does not seem to matter much for many men."

>

Despite poll and fundraising numbers that position her at the head of the presidential pack, Clinton makes it clear that she knows this race is not over yet.

After accepting the endorsement from the American Federation of Teachers on Wednesday she said to reporters, "I'm obviously gratified, but this is a long campaign and we are going to be in four months actually hearing the people decide what their decision would be and I am going to wait for that."

1. "Does not seem to matter much".
What's irritating is that this seems to validate the choices she made I most disagree with. Men!

2. She needs to get herself elected, then she can do what you want, I think
She can change her mind once she's in there.

3. I know some union guys here locally who are Democratic
and they call her a "man-hating bitch."

Guess they didn't poll them, did they?

I don't have a candidate and would love to see the first female president; however, this "man appeal" is a bit elusive to me. Chalk it up to living in a purple state.

4. It isn't the fact that she's a female that leaves me cold
It is the fact that she is a warmonger, and one who has sold her soul for that corporate lucre. I want somebody in office who will listen to the people, not the corporations. Hillary is not that person.

6. Old memes that are disproved daily as L&RW talking points..
The polls reflect Hillary s resonating with more Americans than any other candidate.

Obama is too Republican lite for me and Edwards, well, he lacks forethought.

8. If that be true, I'd like to see some of the disproof.
I don't really care about polls. What has she said and what positions has she taken that should lead me to believe that any of that is an "old meme." Based on what she says, I think Hillary is Republican not very lite at all.

10. I care about polls...
At least they are a scientific representation of the current leanings of a segment of the population.

There is also another meme that is both absurd and idiotic. It goes like this: "I think Hillary is Republican not very lite at all." You do remember the Clinton presidency, don't you?

9. Well, hell, Bush, Bush and Reagan resonated with more Americans than any other candidate
And look where they got us. What's your point? It seems as though such resonance is not a great predictor of how good a job that they'll do as President.

12. LOL!
That's funny, and really pathetic at the same time, how you are spinning the fact that I'm comparing presidential candidates and presidential candidates, and you think I'm comparing apples and Buicks. How can you maintain such cognitive dissonance without your head exploding?
