CLINTON WON'T COMMIT TO RENEW CONSTITUTION
So uhm I guess she plans to use the expanded presidential power handed down from Bush and his gang of thugs. What Constitution? What balance of power? Who cares? Do you?

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/campaignmatters?bid=45&pid=239574

<snip> Illinois Senator Barack Obama has finally signed the American Freedom Pledge, joining his fellow Democratic presidential candidates in encouraging the restoration of basic Constitutional principles after the battering they have taken during the Bush-Cheney era.

All the Democrats, that is, except New York Senator Hillary Clinton.

The effort to get presidential contenders to sign on the American Freedom Pledge has been promoted by organizations ranging from the Center for Constitutional Rights to Human Rights Watch, MoveOn.org , Amnesty International USA, the Brennan Center for Justice, the Campaign to Defend the Constitution, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and True Majority.

1. The Constitution is not like a magazine subscription.
You don't have to "renew" it. :eyes:

9. The Constitution has been thrown away
Renewal is most definitely in order.

It is not just magazines that get renewed. Democracies get renewed too.

4. Why give up power just because you don't like it used against you?
Seriously: When have you ever seen or heard of someone giving up power just because someone else had it first?

22. Typical. No doubt touting herself as the greatest leader of all, she's last in with dampened finger
When will people catch on to this crap? A person who will only hold an opinion if it's popular is useless. I guess the research group was slow in getting back to her. She's got the spontaneity of a slug.

October 05, 2007
As senior Democrats vowed Thursday to obtain secret legal opinions that the Justice Department allegedly issued to sidestep limits on harsh interrogations, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) became the last Democratic candidate to endorse a liberal group’s pledge against torture.

17. I hope Moveon.org remembers that Hillary was last to sign as we
get closer to the primary vote. IMHO Hillary should have been the first to sign the pledge, however, it is gratifying, as a Democrat, to know all Democratic party candidates have now signed.

29. There is a HUGE difference.
It is called "Leadership".

The same applies to her NO vote of the last Iraq Funding Bill.
"Bunker Boys" is a pejorative term used to describe the cowardly behavior of certain types, usually field officers, during Vietnam. These individuals would cower inside reinforced bunkers while the bullets were flying and the mortars were dropping. AFTER the action was over, they would make an appearance prancing around the battlefield pretending to be brave heroes, posing for the cameras, and recommending themselves for medals. The grunts in the holes knew them for what they were.

Dodd, Kerry, and Feingold STOOD UP and fought DURING the battle.

Clinton and Obama hid behind their SILENCE during the real fighting.
Hillary actually RAN from the question at a press conference on Wednesday.
Clinton & Obama stood up ONLY AFTER the battle was over.

They will now parade around showing off their "NO votes like a badge of courage, and some of their campfollowers will applaud them. But the grunts in the holes know the truth."

You think MoveOn is also concerned with Andrew Thornton-- he was the last signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Seems just a relevant...

21. The way to "renew" the Constitution is to get rid of those who are trashing it - either
by impeachment or, failing that, by voting out the Republican party, which is mainly responsible for the trashing. That won't guarantee a renewal of Constitutional government but it will be a necessary first step. Pledges, signed or unsigned, mean little.

25. The article says BIden and Edwards "expressed support" - didn't sign.
You gotta read it closely, because it implies all Dems but Hillary signed, but lists who signed, and then adds that Biden and Edwards "expressed support." Didn't they sign?

Talk about a twisted, biased hit piece.

Lame.

For example. here is Biden's letter which is satisfactory to me. I belong to Amnesty International and pledged to myself that I wouldn't vote for anyone who didn't sign or agree.

Edwards' response

http://www.americanfreedomcampaign.org/storage/afagenda/documents/Edwards%20response%20-%20color.pdf

And finally since yesterday, Clinton's response

http://www.americanfreedomcampaign.org/storage/afagenda/documents/Clinton%20response.pdf

I'm mostly happy with her response though it is limited mainly to torture and wiretapping. I'm glad she responded.

31. The Declaration of Independence Has Expired
While Leftists haggle of "renewing the Constitution," the Declaration of Independence quietly expired six months ago. Great Britain, exercising their options, has taken possession of the United States... story at 11.
