1. Maybe. Nixon's local connections are extensive.
To the extent he has coat-tails, he will pile as many on them as possible.

4. I think his war record, strong anti-communist stand and...
...connection with minority voters might allow him to squeak by. After all, the north-east still dominates national politics and we can always count on a solid Democratic vote from the South. It helped that he put to rest people's concern about possible mixing of church and state. This is the 1960s now and people don't want a theocracy. Anyway, it is not like we can run Stevens again.

11. Damn. Well at least there was no danger of losing the majority.
The Ds will probably hang onto the House for another 30 years at this rate.

3. I remember Jack Kennedy...
and Hillary is no Jack Kennedy (aside from the most obvious reason).

That was so irresistable, I had to be first. Leaving now, back in a few hours.

6. asking the next question
Which of the 2008 candidates do you think could avert a Cuban Missile Crisis, and how?

Will our next big crisis be terrorism, or the economic effects of Bush's war on oil producing nations overly fond of the Euro?

7. Clinton - Obama - Edwards - Biden - Richardson
Our next big crisis will have to do with shipping lanes for oil.

13. Richardson, Kucinich, Biden.
Would be my pick for foreign affairs.

Oil lanes, economic encirclement, environmental/disease disaster.
Who wants to fight us head on one on one? But a four front war? A four front war with our currency destroyed?

Harsh measures to get us to control our CO2? Religious war Xtians vs Islamists?

All of the above are plausible, and multiple threats are likely.

8. 1.) Do you know that the Dems lost 20 seats in 1960?
2.) How do you expect HRC to get any legislation through if the Dems loose control of the Senate or House? If HRC has the ability to get crucial legislation through Congress without a super majority, why hasn't she authored and shepherded legislation through both Houses ending the war or providing us with her mandatory insurance health care plan or ending the use of torture by U.S. forces or frickin' rebuild New Orleans or any of the other thousand things that desperately need to be done? (Hint for those of you playing at home: Because she lacks the political skills to get her legislative agenda passed.)

3.) Just because JFK broke a religious barrier and was a great President, doesn't mean that HRC or Obama or Richardson or anybody else who breaks another barrier will automatically be a great President. If Condi Rice was the first female African-American President, she would still be a really horrible President.

14. No - in 1959 the media was still a valid source of information,
ballots were hand-counted and Bubba's weren't pitted against Urban-dwellers by phoney newsertainers.

and in southern Illinois?
