Entering the race at this point would be a bad move for him; it would make Clark's '03 pomposity seem almost humble in comparison.

It seems like ludicrous "what iffing"; that seems quite out of character for him.

For all his faults, Gore respects the system and the political culture. There are unwritten rules, and even though "all's fair", some things are a little greasier than others. To enter so late--and yes, this is "so late", due to the extreme front-loading of the primaries--would be so disruptive to so many of the second-tier candidates that the animosity that resulted would be wide and deep. He knows this and he understands consequences. Besides all that, it just seems very unlike him.
