Who we elect as President in 2008 will send a message... |
|
...to the world. When bush was inaugurated in 2001, just the name BUSH sent a message to the world that the US would be different...and it was. People of the world were awake to his plans. Same will be true in 2008...who we choose will go a long way to say to the world what kind of country we will be going forward. Think of the message if Gore was elected in 2008: We're serious about joining the world community on global climate change. Think of the message if we re-elect a Clinton: A stamp of approval on his 1992-2000 policies, and his open world view. Guilianai: We're still all about 9/11.
Each choice we make sends a message to the rest of the world. That's why it is SO important that we make the right choice. Your thoughts?

1. That's why I believe the next President will be a Dem! |
|
We DID send a message to the world when we "re-elected" Shrub in 04, and it wasn't a good message either! I think so many people are sorry for their vote in 04, that it's one of the reasons the Pubsseem to be having trouble getting campaign contributions this time. Even the Pubs don't want another Pub elected.
ANY Dem is much more willing to use deplomacy and TALK before military action, and the world knows that.
WE THE PEOPLE really aren't anything like ShrubCo, and lots of us are going to prove that to the World in November 08!

2. The people will almost certainly elect a dem. Question will be, will |
|
the election stand? We will need an overwhelming majority to safeguard against the shenanigans we've witnessed the last two elections. Nothing is certain.

...that a message was sent in 2004, and that it wasn't a good one. I really hope people regret their vote in 2004, but I still worry (even though 2006 was a good sign :) ).
I LOVE your optimism! Most days, I'm there, too. :)

3. Sadly, I fear This "The Who" lyric encapsulates ... |
|
the policies of our next President: "Meet the new boss, the same as the old boss."
Perhaps I'm jaded but things in The United States are going to have to get MUCH WORSE before an inkling of positive change can be recognized.
Right now and for the foreseeable future: The Corporate Stranglehold on our government is all encompassing. In other words, Corporations RULE. :(

...a good man. I think as long as we care enough to do our duty as citizens and get out there and vote...participate in our democracy...then the best man will prevail. And our message will be a good one to the world. Kudos to you for your citizenship! :patriot:

...we do. That's why...even though I think Gore won 2000 and Kerry won 2004, and we HAVE to fix our election system...we, the people share the blame. We took our democracy for granted. We became complacent. If we had taken our citizenship more seriously, Bush would never have had a chance. :hi:

9. You have to elect someone who ENDS the Iraq war |
|
and changes foreign policy. You have to send someone who isn't going to prove how tough they are but someone who is going to prove the US is an honest broker and prominent member of the international community. Otherwise, we will be thought of as nothing different than we currently are.
