ok, since her supporters think HRC is a shoo-in...
what do you envision will happen if she is the nominee and...
1. she wins
2. she does not?

this is open to everyone, not just HRC supporters.

for myself, I don't think if she wins the nomination that she would win the general, but for the sake of argument, I"m willingo to suppose if she became the next president.

my scenario, based on my opinion and speculation, is that she cannot cross Big Pharma or INsurance lobby, or AIPAC, judging by who she pays attention to.
And, she's already said troops will stay in Iraq until 2013. So, that means at least 5 more years of war in Iraq.
Since we are losing troops at an alarming rate now, I cannot believe that type of committment could be maintained without a draft. I'm also not really sure the US economy could survive this level of spending on Iraq. I also don't envision Iraqis ever giving us flowers and candy.
If HRC runs her administration as a better managed empire, that's going to require a lot more money and a lot more troops. REmember, Rumsfeld was all about "shock and awe" because they wanted war on the cheap. Well, for this to be managed better would require even more money and investment.
As it stands now, our country's infrastructure is crumbling, and no capital plans are in the works to repair them. As the costs of warfare go higher and higher, there will be less and less money for other parts of the budget.

That's what I envision if she wins.

If she does not with the general, I see worse things, happening faster, but I see essentially the same things. I think Bush has painted us into a very bad corner.

I wish I could be more optimistic but I guess I'm not.

does anyone out there see a better scenario?

you're free to disagree with mine or talk about if your own candidate won in the general, what would happen.

2. correction:
it's her detractors that keep saying her supporters believe she's a shoo-in or she's inevitable.

Her supporters are much more realistic than that.

10. That is just plain false
There have multiple claims of her inevitability by her supporters. We've all seen them.

4. You have to understand the Republican strategy.
They hope that HRC is the Democrat candidate because she is the most venerable to attacks. When Howard Dean was up front they wanted him to be the guy to attack.

7. If by "venerable"
you mean "vulnerable", you're just wrong. They've attacked for for 15 years with no success. Nobody else in American public life has been attacked like she has, and she keeps on ticking.

5. Although I do see some (probably premature) jubilation among her supporters
I rarely, if ever, see people saying she is a shoo-in.
I doubt mightily that ANYONE except Wes Clark or Al Gore
would be a shoo-in at this point in the game, and since
neither of the two has given any indication that they
want to get into the race, that means that (to me, anyway)
there are no shoo-ins right now. There are some favorable
polls here and there for this candidate or that, but if any
supporter thinks their guy (or gal) has the nomination sewn
up at this point, just ask Howard Dean if their optimism isn't
just a little bit premature..

6. first of all, this idea that "her supporters think she's a shoo in"
seems to be the latest strawman du jour of DU. I have seen very few of her supporters hold to this line. If she, in fact, does win the nomination, it will be because her supporters don't think she's a shoo-in and are out in the real world doing the things that get candidates elected instead of wasting their time jerking off on an anonymous internet message board.

As for the rest of your post - I will not consider any scenario that involves HRC, or any other Democrat, losing the election. There is no alternative, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make that victory happen. I would hope that you and the other members of this website feel the same way because this country cannot afford another four years of a Republican in the White House.

Your scenario for a Clinton victory is so twisted by pessimism as to border on the absurd. It's the same old "no difference" nonsense that Nader pushed in 1999.

9. I really wish you would change your title.
I am a Hillary supporter and I don't believe she is a shoo-in. I agree with enough of her positions to back her but I don't believe ANY of the candidates are going to have an easy time of it as things get closer.

11. Short and Sweet
She wins:
Gridlock, bickering, fighting, Republicans will fight her on every issue. Divisiveness. Scandals.
Pretty much...poop

She loses:
A lot of "I told you so" will be flying around.

15. Ok.
She wins:

We still have troops dying in Iraq.

Insurance companies still have a stranglehold on health care.

Corporations still have a stranglehold on government.

Our Constitution is still compromised.

Corruption thrives unabated.

She loses:

All of the above.
