It is almost like he is a pedophile or something. It makes me want to barf. When it was pointed out she would be the "youngest" first lady since Jackie, if Grandpa was elected, I almost hurled.I know it isn't my business but it is how I feel. Anyone else react that way? Following is the infamous "baby eating diaphram" clip. I have no idea what the child is really eating! That is what someone posted, not me!

You *know* she hooked up with The Creature From the Black Lagoon (at first) just because he was *AN ACTOR*. That raises her creepy level and lowers his level to pathetic creepy.

58. If she's an adult, it's the character of the woman that counts, not her age.
"Pedophile" is a very nasty word. Is it true?

The woman is an adult.

How about you?

To throw these words around is to make DU look like the idiots we despise.

Besides, it's flame bait.

52. Dennis doesn't have that *rode hard, put away wet* look that Thompson has
There's an energy to him that's hard to describe. But you can even see it in photos of him. He's retained a bit of his *inner child* qualities. And whle some may be creeped out by him, if I had to choose which man I'd talk to, based on their looks, it would definitely be Dennis. Yeah, he's short, and not classicly handsome - but he's got a positive aura about him.

Thompson looks like he needs to find a dark bar somewhere where he can drown his sorrows. ick.

11. I have to have sympathy for Freddie-fred-fred.
There was a time when I hooked up with this woman who was so smoking hot that it just oozed out all over the place. She loved bar hopping and I hated it. One of the reasons was that right in front of me--I was a mountain man, late twenties, six-four and two fifty--guys would come up and hit on her. Constantly.
It was a royal pain in the ass and the major reason the relationship lasted no longer than it did.
I can only imagine the number of times guys have hit on Fred's "daughter!"
It would have to affect his choice of associates and assistants and how long they stayed around.

25. "It's almost like he's a pedophile or something", not really no
Many older men have younger wives and girlfriends....Fred Thompson's wife is over the Age of Consent, she's a fully developed adult woman....therefore, I see no comparison whatsoever to Fred Thompson "almost" like being a pedophile....pedophiles are attracted to children, usually children under the age of 12 years-old.

Not that I like the man politically, but at least he didn't dump his first wife ala The Ghoul Rudy Guiliani (well Rudy dumped two wives as we know)

I believe that Fred Thompson was married to the first Mrs. Thompson for a great many years, and then she died....and then he began seeing this whatshername, who became his second wife.

Regardless of politics, he DOES have a right to find happiness again and have the added happiness of young children, and I don't think this is creepy in the slightest, and it really ought not to even be an issue.

If some people don't like what I've just commented, then tough....sometimes plain old common decency should be displayed.

40. Is the thought of a female candidate in her 60s married to
a man in his 40s creepy/disturbing/whatever?

If people can HONESTLY answer that they would not have any reaction to that pairing because the candidate's personal life is none of their business, great. But I suspect a lot of people who say that would react differently to the reversed roles, and if that's the case, a sexist principle, rather than a "none of my business" principle may be what's guiding the reactions.

42. In my case, I guess it depends on the couple. As I stated, Dennis doesn't creep me out but
Fred does? Why? I am not sure. I wouldn't have any problems with a female candidate in her 60's married to a man in his 40s depending on what they were like. In the case of, I think it wa Kay Ballard, in her 70's or 80's and in a wheelchair marrying the guy in his 30's? He was obviously a hustler.I may not be remembering this correctly. That was wrong because she was being taken advantage of.

48. I feel that way too
re: Dennis vs. Fred, and my reasoning is equally visceral and not rational. Why? Because personally I find Fred sexually repulsive, whereas I personally find Dennis kind of cute and I'd probably do him 'cause I bet it would be fun.

It's a personal judgment based on looking at the situation from the woman's point of view.

Has nothing whatsoever to do with making a judgment on the people involved, because I'm not them, and they're all consenting adults, so who are we to say that these kinds of happiness are OK and these other kinds aren't?

But I might make a mean-spirited joke here and there because sometimes I'm just mean. Especially about right-wing Republicans.

55. Listen, in 30 years time, when I'M 60 years old
I'm totally planning on being a horny old gal, so yeah....when I'm 60 years-old, I'll be keeping my eyes fully peeled so I can pull some cute 30 year-old fellow and some cute 40 year-old fellow!

I have VERY little morals where sex is concerned, but you know, it's fun....and I'm counting on it still being fun when I'm 60 years-old :)

So, you see, no I'm not sexist, I have no problem at all when the roles are reversed....and it's really none of mine nor anyone elses business what two consenting adults are doing to each other in the bedroom, or the bathroom, or the kitchen, or the garage, or outdoors at night....

50. This woman has an interest in portraying women...
...who assess men by their wallets as gold diggers also.

Why? Because it reinforces the notion that women can be bought. (I respect straightforward sex workers a lot more than women who play games to get a husband who can buy them a Lexus and a McMansion.) Because it tells men they don't have to work on being good companions, they just have to get rich by any means necessary. (I'd rather drink Old Styles with a wise and kind and funny guy than Dom Perignon with a mean and greedy workaholic bore.) Because it tells women they don't have to be self-sufficient and ambitious and find meaningful work in their own right, they just have to have perfect teeth and fake tits.

64. well, if Thompson creeps you out standing all by his lonesome
I can understand that. But suggesting that his creepiness is related to the fact that he has a younger wife doesn't make much sense to me.

For what its worth, I was always creeped out at the idea of Bush I and Babs...thought she looked like his grandmother.

68. Odd how Edwards and some of his supporters
can be so judgmental of peoples lifestyles that are a bit different from their own.

Shrum recalls asking Edwards at the outset of that campaign, "What is your position, Mr. Edwards, on gay rights?"
"I'm not comfortable around those people," Edwards replied, according to Shrum. He writes that the candidate's wife, Elizabeth, told him: "John, you know that's wrong."
