Edwards Denies Tabloid Report of Affair

SUMMERTON, S.C. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards says a tabloid story that he had an extramarital affair is untrue.

"The story is false. It's completely untrue, ridiculous," Edwards told reporters Thursday after he was asked about the National Enquirer report.

The supermarket newspaper reported that the former North Carolina senator had an affair with a woman who worked on his campaign. It did not identify the woman, nor did it name the source of the information for its report.

Edwards said the story was simply "made up" and that he loves his wife, Elizabeth, who is being treated for an incurable form of cancer.

"I've been in love with the same women for 30-plus years and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known," he said. "So the story's just false."

2. It would have gotten worse if he hadn't
So I'm glad he did. I thought it was a good response, too.

3. What did we think?
Who would believe anything published by the same folks who brought us the stories of Bat Boy campaining to be John Kerry's running mate and Big Foot chosen as Hillary's.

Good Lord.

I am disgusted with politics.

10. only if he knows who did it, but i'm not sure it's good to spend too much time on it
or else he would just be wasting campaign time responding to negative attacks rather than talking about the issues and why people should vote for him.

5. This response touches my heart.
It was an excellent, direct response that should "put to bed" this despicable rumor.

But it is rare to hear a man these days speak about his middle aged wife in the way that he did. It touches my heart.

(We have become such a superficial society, haven't we? I can't remember the last time I heard a man be this forthright in his love for a woman he's been married to for years. I'm sure there are plenty that feel that way. But I sure haven't heard 'em say it. What a guy.)

8. Have they asked Bush
or Laura about reports of his affair with Condi? That was reported in the tabloids too. I think it's only fair to ask them. Maybe show some pictures of the loving gazes between Shrub and Condi. I wish I could find the one where hee's kissing her goodbye and she's got her leg raised.

9. one thing i don't doubt about John Edwards
is that he is 100 percent faithful to Elizabeth and would NEVER cheat on her. in fact i think he is the type that even if he lost her, he would have a hard time starting a relationship with anyone else.

11. "Edwards Admits Tabloid Report of Affair"
Of course, he'll deny it, whether it's true or not. When's the last time you remember a politician, any politician, coming right out and admitting to an affair without denying it first?

Which is not to say I believe that he's having one. He seems more like the Fabio type.
