Tommy Thompson to Endorse Giuliani

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani will pick up the endorsement Friday of former GOP rival Tommy Thompson, a one-time Midwestern state governor.

"Rudy Giuliani has shown that he is a true leader. He can and will win the nomination and the presidency. He is America's mayor, and during a period of time of great stress for this country he showed tremendous leadership," Thompson, the former Wisconsin governor, said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.

The former New York mayor is to accept the endorsement in South Carolina later Friday.

Thompson, the Health and Human Services secretary in President Bush's first term, entered the crowded GOP presidential field early this year only to spend several months struggling to raise money and gain traction in early voting Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere. He was overshadowed by another, unrelated Thompson who was not even in the race at the time, but who was polling far stronger than the ex-governor, former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson.

talk about having to pick between a rock and a hard place

all thompson can say about guiliani is that he showed "leadership" in an emergency. Shit, so did the dog that saved the family from the fire the cat started.

At the end of the day, guiliani didn't do jack shit. He told people to go shopping, he put a high priority on recovery of remains until the minute all the gold was recovered; then he started paving potholes with bodies.

He tried to get his term as mayor extended (a portent of what's to come with bush? that's the way incompetants in power think) and when that didn't happen he went on the lecture circuit basically to brag about doing nothing. He skipped out on serving on the 9/11 commission because he preferred making money bragging about doing nothing. He has absolutely no plan to deal with global terrorism other than to talk tough and show bravado. He rallies the base of bar-fighters. People who love to scream 'kill the umpire' and throw crap on the field, boo the opposing team and throw beer on them just love ol' rudy. And that is the BEST of the lot! That is what thompson selects from the entire field. If freddy were to just start saying "fuck them ragheads" he could steal guliani's supporters in a heartbeat.

That he would pay "tribute" to Giuliani speaks volumes to the informed.
