Des Moines: Obama Goes After Clinton on Iraq, Iran
Obama goes after Clinton on Iraq, Iran

by Rick Pearson

DES MOINES—Illinois Sen. Barack Obama lashed out at Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton's electability this morning, contending her nomination would let a Republican election opponent say they both support the Iraq war and allow her to be attacked for changing positions and not being open with the public.

"When I am the nominee of our party, the choice will be clear," Obama told a few hundred supporters inside Old Main at Drake University. "The American people want that choice. I think they welcome that choice because I believe that's what we need in our next president."

A day after saying his campaign was turning to a new phase in the approaching weeks before Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses, Obama delivered his strongest criticism to date of Clinton, the New York senator who is the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in national polls.

Contending Clinton was part of a Congress that "failed" the American people by leading the nation to war with Iraq, Obama said her vote in support of authorizing the war says much about what she would do as president. Obama opposed the war as a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

"Every single one of us running for president only had once chance to make a judgment about whether or not to go to war," Obama said.

1. It's about time he mentions her by name. And what's Hillary's response?:
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 02:27 PM by jenmito
"Apparently Senator Obama's fall in the polls has led him to abandon his pledge to change our politics and bring people together..." So he's not allowed to criticize her? He needs to be the nominee if he wants to bring people together. And for her, of all people, to talk about breaking pledges! :eyes:

2. They trot out that same old response every time Obama criticizes her.
It's getting old.

3. It sounds strikingly familiar to the kind of crap Bush's communication flacks put out.
Every time I see the Clinton camp response from her spokesman, Phil Singer, I want to puke cause it reminds me of Ari Fleischer and his ilk.

4. It sure is. I remember seeing Wolfson using that line...
and it looks like they think it's a winning line.

6. What part of "politics of hope" said that Obama has to be a wimp?

I'm talking about scheduled events he had for the day.

18. Because running for President and attending campaign events
is more important than serving in the U.S. Senate (which is what he was elected and is paid to do)?

19. No-because BECOMING president is only possible
if one campaigns. He would've canceled his events for the day if he was told the vote was going to be close.

21. So now it's Harry Reid's responsibility to tell Obama when he should be available to vote
and when he can blow off his job? :eyes: I thought he was an adult...

9. Maybe it's inexperience after all
or may just run-of the-mill politics.

First he complains that she voted for the K/L amendment (after he co-sponsored a bill with the same language in it back in March) and now he seems not to understand 'negotiating without preconditions' and 'meeting with heads of state' of bad actor nations without preliminary talks.

I'm surprised his foreign policy advisors didn't explain it better to him -- or maybe it's just the same ole', same ole' story -- the politics of misdirection.

11. Obama was he was willing to speak w/o preconditions;he did not "promise" to speak with them, Hillary
There is a difference, but don't expect much of the media or Hillarybots to admit it.

leader of the free world.

13. Hillary has not taken on anything but the corporate Lobbyist money.
She has not done a damn thing since she has been in the Senate worth speaking about. She even Criticized Bush for using 911 as a political ad and turned around to do the same damn thing. She has been flip flopping on issues so bad that Tylenol and Excedrin can't help you.
