The American people must hold them accountable |
|
Reprise of the New York Times top story today.
In a sweeping indictment of the four-year effort in Iraq, the former top commander of American forces there Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, called the Bush administration’s handling of the war “incompetent” and said the result was “a nightmare with no end in sight.”
“After more than four years of fighting, America continues its desperate struggle in Iraq without any concerted effort to devise a strategy that will achieve victory in that war-torn country or in the greater conflict against extremism,”
“There has been a glaring and unfortunate display of incompetent strategic leadership within our national leaders,” he said, adding that civilian officials have been “derelict in their duties” and guilty of a “lust for power.”
“National leadership continues to believe that victory can be achieved by military power alone,” he said. “Continued manipulations and adjustments to our military strategy will not achieve victory. The best we can do with this flawed approach is stave off defeat.”
“The administration, Congress and the entire inter-agency, especially the State Department, must shoulder responsibility for the catastrophic failure, and the American people must hold them accountable,” he said.

3. I heard on the Thom Hartmann show yesterday |

that once we get rid of the bushes we would need to reconcile and forgive. That is what Thom said and I usually agree with him, but this time he is making a very dangerous mistake.
If they are not prosecuted they will simply come back. We forgave after Nixon was caught. We forgave after Reagan was exposed. What was the result? We got all the same criminals and more with the bush coupe. The bushes have come out of all this more powerful and more wealthy then every before. What makes you think that they are going to quietly discontinue all their dirty tricks? We can not afford to forgive because if we do, and they suffer minimal repercussions, like they did after Nixon and Reagan, they will come back in an even more destructive and powerful form.
The only way to deal with these sociopaths is to punish them. If they are not punished, they will return.

and when they do come back, they push the envelope.
If you are not very, very, careful, fascism lite will turn into a police state. That is the direction things are heading.
