The Swamp blog:

Obama has $32 million in bank for primary

by John McCormick and Mike Dorning, updated

The campaign for Sen. Barack Obama just announced that they have approximately $32 million in the bank available for use in the primary campaign, with another $4 million on hand for a potential general election bid.

The campaign said it had 108,000 new donors during the third quarter, when it pulled in $20 million. That's more new donors than the 100,000 reported by Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York earlier this month when her preliminary third-quarter data was released.

“The strength of our historic small donor base is in activism, not just contributions,” campaign manager David Plouffe said in a statement. “The vast majority of these supporters have not yet achieved their full giving potential and will ensure our ability to continue to raise the resources needed to win the nomination. Many of these donors will also provide organizational strength by going door-to-door, making phone calls and actively helping Barack Obama become the next president of the United States.”

1. Why do you hate Hillary? Damn you.
(just kidding). Get ready to be accused.

Personally, I think Obama should go to Al Gore and offer to be his VP. Thats a ticket I'd support and a ticket that I think is actually a sure win in the general. Its a damn shame, but I know too many blue collar Dems that would never vote for Hillary, regardless of her being a Democrat. They are the same ones who voted for Bush in 2000. Its bizarre but its true.

12. But how can this be? The polls say otherwise! Snark.Combined with the Edwards Union endorsements
I don't think those polls are reflecting anything remotely connected with the reality on the ground.

13. Actually, Hillary campaign raised $34,140,200 for the primary to Obama's $33,106,400
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 06:39 AM by flpoljunkie
The Hillary camp was exaggerating--saying the amount she raised was about $35 million while the Obama camp put their figure last night at around $32 million. The remaining $16,322,800 can only be used in the general.

The actual difference is a little over one million--$1,033, 800--not $3,000,000! Nice try, Hil camp!

14. He might want to start spending that. Someone should tell him there's an election in 14 weeks.
