Media: Hillary camp exaggerating numbers--raised $34,140,200 for the primary to Obama's $33,106,400
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 08:10 AM by flpoljunkie
The Hillary camp was exaggerating--releasing the figure of about $35 million raised last night--while the Obama camp put their figure last night at around $32 million. The remaining $16,322,800 Hillary raised can only be used in the general.

The actual difference raised between Hillary and Obama is a little over one million--$1,033, 800--not $3,000,000! Nice try, Hil camp! But, hey, the media seems to have bought it, for the most part.

8. No, jus the typical Clintonian dishonesty about fundraising.
But, these are the people who served as a character reference for Norman Hsu.

2. Obama and Clinton are tied at $32 million dollars cash on hand for the primary after debts.

Obama and Clinton are tied at $32 million dollars cash on hand for the primary after debts.

===========================================================

From PR release:

CLINTON REPORTS $50 MILLION CASH-ON-HAND: $35M PRIMARY, $15M GENERAL

Senator now leads Democratic & Republican fields in cash on hand for both primary and general contests

Hillary Clinton’s campaign today announced that it has $50 million in cash-on-hand, of which approximately $35 million can be spent for the primary and $15 million on the general election. The number reflects the strength of support for Clinton from every walk of life and every part of America – and means she will have more money to spend than any other candidate in the months leading up to the primary.

“Our success this quarter raising money from over 100,000 new donors reflects the overwhelming grassroots enthusiasm Hillary is attracting from every part of the country,” campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle said today. “Not only that, our cash-on-hand total means we will now have the most resources of any campaign to help spread our message as the primary campaign heads into the final stretch.”

In addition to having $35 million in cash-on-hand for the primary, Clinton’s campaign noted several key numbers demonstrating the overwhelming depth and breadth of Clinton’s support:

· Approximately $27.8 million raised this quarter: $23.7 million for the primary, $4.1 million for the general

· Over 100,000 new donors this quarter

· 24 low-dollar fundraisers this quarter (versus 6 in the 2nd quarter)

· $8 million raised on the internet this quarter

============================================================

From prior reporting:

Clinton's campaign on Sept. 14 sent refunds totaling $804,850 to 249 donors -- all of them associated with the disgraced bundler Norman Hsu. "While we had no information that any specific individual made a contribution that was not from his or her personal funds, we decided to refund all of those donations out of an abundance of caution," said Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson.

14. Why did Obama send out an email begging for cash, saying "we're 2 million $ behind"?

3. HRC has become the Rovian Empress of Fuzzy Math ... trust her?
Not a chance, for me.

The time is at hand when many of us are noting and SCREAMING that this "Empress" wears no clothes, either.

Imagine this: the American voting public is ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR SINCERITY in political candidates ... why so focused now?
Oh, I don't know, but fool me twice, thrice or four times does come quickly to mind. GIVE ME AUTHENTICITY. Go 08ama.

4. Oh, what the hell! A million
here, a million there. I don't care how much any of them raises. The media treat this as a horse race instead of a challenge for our country. The fact that obscene amounts of cash must be raised to enter the horse race seems at once very American, and at the same time, very Un-American. I do not like having to buy my president. All I want is someone who can lead, inspire, and work tirelessly for the country. I don't care their race or gender.

6. Using Opensecrets.org figures, Hillary has exactly $96,059 more cash on hand than Obama.
This figure is derived after subtracting the debt owed by the campaigns from the cash on hand. Opensecrets does not break the total money raised for the primary vs. the general election, however. I used figures from the NYT article for that.

11. can someone explain the primary v. general issue?
Its being said that $15 million of clinton's money can't be used until the general election. Why? And why isn't the same true for Obama or any of the other candidates? Not sure I understand this and hope someone can explain.

18. The reason is you can contribute now for both the primary and the general election
Both are limited to a max of $2,300. So, some donors are giving $4,600 - which maxs them out for both. This will save fundraising costs in the general election. (I assume they also get interest) What I don't know is what happens when one of the candidates does not win the nomination - which will of course happen. I assume they can't just give all that money to the winner - as it is possible that they gave to both. (or does passing through the ge campaign that never happened give them the right to donate it?

10. Depends if Joe and Joanne care if we should continue installing the same old "integrity-challenged"
folks into the Oval Office.

I suspect they've had just about enough of that shit.

13. Ummm you are calling cash on hand numbers "money raised"....
Hillary beat Obama in 3rd Q fundraising and it appears they have about the same about of cash on hand for the primaries give or take $1M.

16. That is correct.
However, we're seeing it trumpeted around here that "HILLARY BEATS OBAMA . . . AGAIN" and citing a $3M cash advantage that doesn't exist.

It's all a bunch of silly nonsense, since neither Clinton nor Obama will lack a single penny they need to compete in Iowa (unlike John "PubFi" Edwards). And whowever wins in Iowa will be able to really rake it in.
