Malkin lies about misleading Gallup poll, says "most Americans support Bush's SCHIP veto"
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 01:23 PM by antiimperialist
Michelle Malkin is so desperate that she is resorting to lying.
A new Gallup poll that does not include a question about Bush's veto came out today.
It found among other things that
52% trust Democrats when it comes to SCHIP
32% trust Bush

52% agree that "most benefits should go to children in families earning less than 200% of the poverty level.

And Malkin bases her assumption on a misleading question by Gallup.
Check it out:

As you may know, the Democrats want to allow a family of four earning about $62,000 to qualify for the program. President Bush wants most of the increases to go to families earning less than $41,000. Whose side do you favor?

What's wrong with this question? You must have noticed it by now. Gallup does not mention under the Democrats' bill, those who make less than $62,000 will not also qualify, but will constitute the majority of those covered. The only fact revealed by Gallup about the Democratic plan is that it will cover those making "about $62,000".

But the bottom line is that no question about Bush's veto was asked.

Malkin (and Gallup) hit another low.

4. Well, Gallup is not the only poll in the world
And yes, most polls that I've seen shown support way about 50%. I don't know about 80% but I'd have to confirm.

5. What? That sentence absolutely sucks... Are you trying to say
the dems wouldn't qualify a family that makes $62,000? And a better question.. Our congress makes much more than that and receives healthcare, the best, in fact, for life... So, is that fair.. $62,000 doesn't go far, especially in certain states in this country... Universal healthcare is something everyone wants.. but when they break it down to money class.. those they surveyed, on the whole, were probably closer to that number, and thought, damn if I made $20,000.00 more I'd be able to afford healthcare...and they probably surveyed people with company policies.. If you are covered by work, the $4-500.00 every month for the family is a lot less than the $1200.00 per month for the family out of pocket.

6. But only fake Americans oppose bush so michelle is correct
And she's a fucking honesty queen in the minds of the every shrinking number of morons who still support bush.

what is the epiphany which makes a former bush supporter?

8. Pushing it
Does Malkin's report actually claim that the Gallup Poll includes specific numbers on a support of Bush's veto? Because it sounds to me like she is not lying here. Bush's veto is based on the fact that SCHIP already covers families like the Frosts but that he feels that the program does not need to be expanded to cover families over that 200% mark. The numbers show that people seem to agree with that; hence, a connection to Bush's veto.

9. Actually I think you are pushing it
Support for Bush's veto does not follow from the premise that people don't want those making above $62,000, because at no point did Gallup note that the SCHIP bill would cover not only those making "about $62,000", but also those earning less than that.
Did you know that a majority (70%) of those benefitted under the Democratic bill would be those who make 200% or less relative to the poverty line? Gallup only tells you that 52% agree with Bush, but does not tell you that those 52% are at the same time agreeing with Democrats.

10. I did not know that
That is interesting. It still sounds like there was not the out and out lying that was implied, but it sounds like you are correct about that 52%.
You seem to be knowledgeable on this:
Isn't it also true that those who do support the bill aren't saying anything about doing away with SCHIP altogether?
And doesn't Bush want to put more money into the program, just not expand the qualifications?
I've heard a lot of different things and it's hard to keep track of what's what. But I get the feeling that it's not as simple as "For the children or against the children."

11. Has Malkin ever not lied? I have never seen her say anything that has even an ounce of truth to it!
Maybe Chris Matthews will have her back on his program to explain about the Swift boaters again.
