"The End For Roe V Wade...The End For Affirmative Action"
Edited on Sat Oct-27-07 05:50 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
That's Jeffrey Toobin's prediction if the Dems lose the 08 presidential election and a Rethug president replaces one liberal justice...

He said "the court in on the edge of a knife."

1. Our democracy itself stands on the edge of a knife, as it has for 7 years.
God help us all.

Hekate

6. We Didn't Lose
you mean if they steal it again!
Those sorry bastards couldn't win an election legitimately. They have to resort to their expertise, criminal behavior.
The dooms day clock is already ticking. I feel that even if the wrong Dem candidate (Clinton) gets in there. The end may be accourding to Mayan prediction.

11. The whole strategy of theft involves close elections
Edited on Sat Oct-27-07 08:20 PM by Capn Sunshine
If you don't want a close election, you stand up for your beliefs and differentiate yourself from your opponent. This was clearly demonstrated in 2006.

Congress and many members of the party seem blind to this concept. They think we need to not "scare " the swing voter.

3. I think the Puggies will be very reluctant to sink Roe v. Wade.
Once abortion is outlawed (or, more correctly, put into the hands of the state legislatures), the Puggies will have lost one more tool for flogging the religious conservatives into line and out to vote. That will basically only leave them with the various homosexuality issues for rabble-rousing.

5. They Really Wouldn't Have A Choice If A Case Reaches The Court

Thomas, Scalia , Roberts, and Ailito are anti-choice...

8. All guys
None of them get pregnant and give birth.

Such injustice.

I am still really angry with Sandra Day O'Connor. She now realizes that she could have kept her seat on the Supreme Court. She quit to care for her hubby, but his condition was too bad for her to help him.

I believe if supreme court judges are elected for LIFE, they need to stay on for LIFE no matter what, unless their own health is so poor that they can't work.

9. She Looks Real Good Right Now
But they get to serve for life if they want to... It really wasn't intended as a sentence of some kind....

10. Nonsense! Embolden by their "Win" on Abortion, They'll Go After Birth Control
and they can always come up with more ways to hurt gay people.

7. That's an accurate assessment.
If they replace one more left-leaning judge, those and many other progressive issues are in serious danger.

14. For this reason and this reason only, hold your nose and vote for the Dem candidate.
It is really that important, and it is the issue on which I have held my nose in the past.

I'm glad that I did.

Overturning Supreme Court precedent is not easy.

Look at it this way--if one of the candidates you can't stand does bad on your issues, but puts good folk on the Federal courts, he or she is better than a pubbie who will do bad on your issues, and put awful folk on the Federal courts.

With the Dem, you get at least one win.
