Is Edwards giving up on Illinois? He is not slating delegates in the state and ...
. . .leaving it up to supporters who want to be delegates to file their own paperwork. In 2004 I was in charge of slating Wes Clark's delegates in Illinois and back then EVERY campaign filed delegate slates. What do you guys think is up with this? My thinking is that with the Illinois race moving up to Feb. 5 the Edwards campaign has limited resources.

Obviously the Illinois primary is going to be an Obama/Clinton showdown but I'm shocked that Edwards is not fielding slate here.

John Edwards' campaign aides said Friday he will be filing for the Illinois ballot and is not organizing a slate. They expect individuals to file on their own to run as Edwards delegates. That leaves Edwards in a poor position to leverage any wins in early caucus and primary states.

2. He has less money to spend than Illinois' sitting senator and its native daughter.
Likely that cash could be put to more productive use elsewhere.

There are exceptions to favorite son/favorite daughter polling preferences. Robert F. Kennedy defeated a favorite son in Indiana in 1968.

Imagine a Kennedy winning an Indiana primary and you realize how far this country has come in many respects.
