On Russert this a.m. William Safire says Hillary will pick Rahm Emmanuel as her VP... |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-28-07 10:11 AM by KoKo01
he said they are both the Hawkish wing of the party. Also predicted that there will be a split between the Hillary and Nancy Wings of the Democratic party if Hillary stumbles in Iowa or NH.
I think Safire's getting senile...he had other predictions that were too bizarre to mention. But since Russert and some others in the M$M consider Safire some kind of "guru" thought I'd pass it along, just in case the RW'ers start sending it around on their blogs and Hillary starts to take it seriously.

There is no way Hillary will pick Emmanuel.
The way Wes Clark has been supporting her, I wouldn't be surprised if she choose him, however, most likely, she would probably choose him as Secretary of Defense if she wins the nomination and election

Rahm Emmanuel wouldn't bring anything of value to the ticket. A three-term House member from Illinois?

Russert asked Saffire who Clinton OR Obama would pick as VP. I didn't hear him say Emanuel. He also asked who Rudy or Thompson on Romney would pick...
He then asked Saffire what he THOUGHT the Dems biggest worry is and out of multiple choices, Saffire chose a Dem party split. He didn't predict anything.

22. I thought about this long and hard, and it is not that far fetched. The pro Israeli lobby |
|
has one of the strongest cross party voting records imaginable.
This would be good for Clinton. A preceived strong on defense woman candiate for the presidencey, with a vice who mirrored her views.
If you believe that the presidental election will turn on "who is the strongest" war time candidate, you might not want to discount the squirely old guys prediction.
For example, here in NE Ohio, 14th Congressional District, US House Rep. Steve LaTourette- R, has received a shocking amount of support from those D's who are first and foremost, pro Israeli lobby.
In fact, LaTourette received that support when he opposed first term Congressman Eric Fingerhut, and beat him badly.

expediency, all bets are off.
Hillary is no different than any other pol.
If she is up at night, counting the votes, she is going to make sure (if she is the nominee) that her Veep will bring in a few as well.
Johnson and JFK were an example of political expediency.

she will pick obama.
"History is full of famous political allies who disliked each other."
if she picked rahmey it would cement my inability to vote for her.
at this point i can hold my nose, but the stency of rahmey would be too much to stomach.
but i don't think that will be a decision i have to make.
hopefully.

If I have to listen to a conservative viewpoint, I'll take Safire's writing over Kristol's carnival barking any day.
One morning -- just one damn morning -- I'd like to see George Stephanopoulos bring Ramsey Clark in on the round table chat. It would be interesting to see how George Will handles Ramsey Clark.
My guess is that Will would storm off the stage. or threaten to quit if ABC brought on anyone to actually challenge him.

41. Senator Clinton hasn't won nomination yet, so we can only suggest an |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-28-07 04:03 PM by Old Crusoe
if-she-does scenario for a veep pick.
In that scenario, I think John Breaux would be someone she might likely wind up choosing, partly on the advice of Carville and perhaps others. Things aren't looking good demographically for us in Louisiana; Breaux might be the only Democrat in the state who could turn that around and put the electoral college votes there in play. And he would likely play well in places like the Carolinas and Georgia, and so would be a plus for the ticket.
General Clark and Senator Bayh seem like strong contenders on an HClinton short list. Maybe Tom Vilsack. Maybe Jim Webb.
If he is not nominated, Bill Richardson might consider joining the ticket. Ditto Senator Obama.
I'm somehow thinking that Edwards and Biden would not accept the job if asked, but who knows what will happen?
If the Clinton camp wins nomination it will have to decide many things, including whether to choose a veep nom to placate the Right or one to assuage the Left.
If she chooses Rahm, the southern electroal college is more up for grabs than if she were to choose Clark or Webb.
Or John Breaux.

42. BIll Safire has been losing it for years |
|
He is obsessed with Clinton-Bashing, and even in his NYT "language" columns, he can't help himself. He once did a column on the use of the word "bore." He went on about "small bore" "bore a grudge" and always managed to bring his discussion around to why Bill and Hillary were the devil incarnate.
I wrote a letter to the IHT saying that Safire forgot another type of bore: Bill Safire, the "crashing bore." They even printed it!
