Dean is asking us to still cast our votes for him! |
|
He stated that he has just stopped campaigning, but that he is not out of the process! The more delegates that he gets, the more OUR voice will be heard at the convention! We will be able to have a say in who the VP might be, what the party platform is, etc. By voting for someone else right now, our voice is shut out! Let Kerry and Edward's supporters pick the candidate on their own. They didn't like our candidate nor us, really, and now they want to make nice because they need us! Let them court us and if we stick with our beliefs and still vote for Dean, then we will be able to hold out for some of our ideals to be part of our platform!
Dean did not endorse anyone and he did not release his delegates! When and if he does, then we can decide on our own what we are going to do. Until that time, stick with your beliefs and vote for Dean!
It does matter!

If Dean had not done what he did, I'd be writing in Bugs Bunny. There is no way I'm supporting the pro-war Dems until I have to.

I'm ABB in November on the Democratic line, but now.....I don't like the way the primary has been decided BEFORE major states vote. I don't like anything about the way Kerry has been anointed.

I have waited over a year to pull the lever for Dean and that's what I intend to do. After that is done, then I'll decided where I want to throw my support.

I want our ideas to have input at the convention. Then, I plan to support our candidate. And I hope Dean's organization coordinates efforts to get good people elected to Congress.

8. strange message from NY DFA |
|
That was (and still is) my intention, and I found this very odd... this morning in my inbox, I had two emails, one from Ethan Geto, who identifies himself as the New York State Director of Dean for America, in which he claims to have just spoken with Dr. Dean. Geto summarized the conversation as follows:
"In this regard let me report what the Governor emphasized regarding his supporters in New York. All Dean supporters are now released, free to make our own choices about which Democratic candidate we wish to support in the upcoming primary.
Governor Dean also asked me to offer some practical advice and guidance concerning our delegate candidates. It is true that Governor Dean’s name will remain on the ballot and our delegate candidates will be eligible to receive votes on March 2nd. However, it is important to keep in mind that getting elected as a delegate requires Governor Dean meeting two important thresholds: he must win at least 15% of the votes cast statewide in the popular vote contest that is separate from the vote for delegate candidates, AND he must capture 15% of the vote in the delegate’s Congressional District."
However, in a message sent just over an hour later, Dr. Dean himself implored me "We can still send delegates to the convention, and we should. If you are in a state with district, and state conventions, please make sure everyone goes, so that we send all the delegates we are entitled to. If you are in a state that has not yet voted, be sure to vote. We'll have a great time at the convention."
These are not completely contradictory, but there is a definite difference in tone and intent. I can't decide if this is just a case of a former Dean supporter moving on after his announcement, or something more sinster. At best, it seems that he is misrepresenting Dean's position. While I've been ideologically a Dean supporter for quite a while, I only got involved officially via the website a couple of months ago. Do any longtime Deaniacs know this Ethan Geto and/or have any idea why the two very different messages?

13. GO WITH THE MAN HIMSELF! |
|
I believe in getting my messages from the person, right out of their mouths, if possible. Not listening to someone else! "Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of others" who want your support for their candidate. You may not even know they are trolling for others. I just received an e-mail from Howard Dean, (I am sure that one of his volunteers wrote it, but it was from his e-mail address), to me, not a "Dear Supporter" mailing list letter, in which he thanks me for my comments, money and help AND he asks for me to get the message out to vote in the Primary's for him! That delegates matter! And we do want to hear his speech at the convention! What a great one that will be!
Don't believe anyone but Dean, not even me ;-)))))

I'm voting Dean at my primary here in New York, and to tell the truth, I probably would even if Dr. Dean followed me all the way to the polls urging me to write in Lieberman (it could happen). I'm determined to cast at least one vote I feel really good about this year. I was just curious as to what others made of the two messages, and if anyone in other states had gotten contradictory messages like this.

I hope that all Dean supporters don't throw away their votes in the next few months. If we help one of these others with our votes, we are just giving them a belief that they can just continue doing what they are doing. We need to be the "burr in their saddle"! Forever! Let other's think they decide who the nominee is and then in November, hold you nose and vote (and work hard to get others to vote) for the Nominee, because it is more important than anything else we can do, to ABB. Our civil rights, and our very lives and our children's lives depend on it. And, never forget that the Supreme Court Justices are all old and probably can not hold out for another 4 years. They had said in 1999, that they would retire if a Republican President was elected. Well, they selected one and then they have not retired. I think they had "Buyer's Regret"! Also, remember, that the Religious Television Ministers all have prayer circles, praying for the deaths of the moderate Justices. (Real, true Christians....I am sure this is what Christ would pray for!). We must have a Democrat in the White House, and we must get him a Congress that he can work with.

what I got from Glen Maxey (Texas)
"Dean is still on the ballot in Texas. If Dean receives 15% in any Senate District election on March 9th, he will probably win a national delegate. Dean supporters are also still eligible to caucus for him and be elected as delegates for Dean. Some of us may now choose to support other candidates who are still vying for the nomination. We will respect your decision. However, the Dean for Texas effort will work to assist Dean supporters who wish to move through the system under Gov. Dean’s banner to take our rightful place among those setting policy, electing party officers, writing our Party’s platform, and being Dean delegates though all levels of conventions including Boston."
IMHO...it does seem a little different from what you got.

As I said in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=362255, a protest vote can have much more impact at the same percentage than a vote for a candidate. For example, 10% for a candidate is not that impressive, but 10% as a protest vote packs a lot more punch. I actually like Dean "the movement" better than Dean "the candidate." I had been planning to vote for Kucinich, but now that Dean had stopped campaigning, I am reconsidering; I may vote for Dean now. I think it says something when voters are willing to spend their votes on a message rather than a viable candidate.

It was his message! That is what we must keep fighting on about! Even after the nominee is chosen, even after that Nominee is sitting in the White House.....we must never stop! Even after we have changed this country, we must never stop! Remember, Thomas Jefferson said that we might need a revolution every 20 years, because the powers that be will always try to imprison the masses, for their own benefit! We must not let them again!
Vote your choice! Not the polls!

Is this a mathematical concept?
Would it be Kerry the adder, or Clark the subtractor, perhaps, Edwards the multiplier?
Please expound on your salubrious comment. Enquiring minds want to know.

In my primary, even though it is in late April and will be meaningless to the selection of our nominee. But it will be the vote I care about the most this year.
I am working for Allyson Schwartz, who is running for Congress, but cannot vote for her because she's not in my district. I will be voting for Joe Hoeffel for Senate, but I don't care for him much, so it's just a vote against Specter.
So, hell yes, I'll be voting for Dean in April. I need to vote one time for somebody I care about.

when JFK died, when Bobby died, when Martin Luther King, jr. died. It was not about the man.....it was the message, the possiblity of change for the better coming to this world! I don't believe that I will have the same feeling about who our Nominee will be....but I will have the same feeling about getting Bush and company out of power! We must work to never let another spawn of that line EVER come back to power! Never forget! Remember also, what were the words that Bush I could not give a talk without saying, "NEW WORLD ORDER". Well, his son gave it to us....I for one, did not want it then and do not want it now! Make them take it back!
