Is it time to say bye-bye GD:2004? |
|
I posted this topic last week in ATA. Just interested in some more feedback. The admins are doing a great job in making decisions, etc. (even the most recent one to return to the wild west). I just wanted to discuss whether this forum is even relevant anymore. We seem to be creating controversy where it no longer exists, which is a good indication that it's not.
rucky (1000+ posts) Sat Feb-14-04 09:31 AM Original message I'm beginning to think that the 2 separate GD forums are contributing...
to the infighting & continuing loss of perspective we're seeing around here.
The plan for two GDs made sense when it was a 10-person race - there was just simply too much campaign-related information & discussion. But now, the field has whittled down. The campaign has become less complicated, and people who have been used to advocating for a candidate & flaming the opposing candidates are stuck in that mode.
With the two separate forums - I must admit that GD1 has been restored to thoughtful discussion and a great information exchange. It's primarily focused on Bush, PNAC & the BFEE. But - as a consequence of the two GD forums - any discussion of how the latest GOP shenanigan relates to the people we're currently choosing as our opposing leadership is deliberately avoided.
On the same note, folks in the GD:2004 are primarily focused on the candiates as they relate to each other - moreso than how they relate to Bush & co. It's almost as if talking about Bush in this forum is deliberately avoided beyond the most surface levels. ABB has become an empty slogan in this forum - a sharp contrast to the tone that GD:1 is taking. The separate GD forums reinforces this message: unity in this room, discourse in that one. As a result, there's been more talk of 3rd parties & general anti-Democrat sentiments. I think this is happening partially because the information they're processing does not include the insights offered in the GD forum.
I think it's time to reconsider the two rooms. Candidates are whittling away & there is much less of substance to discuss that would require a separate forum. Maybe putting our broken GD back together is just what some folks need to regain their perspective.

2. It might be good to have two |
|
One for civilized discourse and one for bedlam. I don't have strong feelings either way, though, so I'll vote for your platform if you get your point over. :)

4. I don't think it's quite time yet, but when it is |
|
it oughta just be renamed GE: 2004. We're going to need another forum just for the election.
