MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) — John McCain's 95-year-old mother, in a swipe at her son's rival Mitt Romney, said Friday that Mormons were to blame for the scandal that rocked the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

During an appearance on MSNBC, Roberta McCain laid out why her son, John, deserves to win the Republican presidential nomination. But in evaluating McCain's primary rivals, she criticized Romney's Mormon faith and his time in Salt Lake City.

"As far as the Salt Lake City thing, he's a Mormon and the Mormons of Salt Lake City had caused that scandal. And to clean that up, again, it's not a subject," Roberta McCain said.

John McCain quickly stepped in: "The views of my mothers are not necessarily the views of mine."

2. I saw that. I think most people understand that elderly people...
have some views that are archaic now. His mother is, what...90? She was growing up during the flapper years. It was a different time.

3. Mrs. McCain. Can you say Charles Keating?

I hate to disrespect the elderly, but she needs to keep her 95 year old mouth shut. She has severe memory lapses. His campaign is really in the toilet if he has a 95 year old woman out there promoting hate on his behalf. Don't ge me wrong, I am no Mitt Romney fan by any means, but those who don't leave in glass fucking houses should not be throwing boulders. If his mothers views are not the same as his, then why the fuck is she out their campaigning for him?

4. I would no sooner let my 94-year-old Grampa speak for me publicly
than I would a four-year-old. Not saying the lady is childlike or doesn't have her marbles, but the very-elderly tend not to have any inhibitions about saying things that might be offensive--or the world changed, but their views haven't. Wouldn't want my Grampa going on about "colored people", LOL!

5. I will not speak, nor do I hold, any ill will towards a 95 year old woman
