Edwards Statement on Recess Appointment of Bill Pryor |
|
Senator John Edwards (D-NC) released the following statement today:
"William Pryor has a long record of vigorous efforts to deny Americans' basic rights under our laws. He does not belong on the federal bench. And he clearly does not belong there because of a recess appointment that ignores the Senate. George Bush is abusing his authority as president to put someone on the bench who is likely to abuse his authority as a judge. This is one more example of why we need a new president."

I hope that every single Democrat in congress will reflect these sentiments, particularly in the light of the recent challenge to Roe v. Wade filed in the District Court that onto which Bush underhandedly used the same method to appoint Pickering.

Edwards realizes the importance of stopping the right wing from stuffing the courts with this trash.

4. Nobody fought harder against Ashcroft's nomination |
|
Edwards has an abiding love for the law, and he's been very effective in his mere 5 years in the Senate.
Man, Junior's a dick. First Pickering, and now this. I suppose that fascist chick from Texas is next, huh?
Late Friday; the MO of this administration: like thieves in the night, they take what they please.

5. These appointments show that Bush is scared... |
|
...he's shoring up his support in the base by making these appointments. He'll definitely need those Southern conservatives if he goes up against Edwards.

The funny thing is that many Southern conservatives turned on Pryor, even demanded the Bush withdraw his nomination, after Pryor didn't go along with Judge Roy Moore's contempt of court in the Ten Commandments case.
