Maybe we could bribe Nader not to run?
I just thought of this.

Does Nader run some sort of an organization? Perhaps we could write to him and each pledge to support X amount of dollars to it...if he doesn't run.

Think about it. If he runs, I could see a lot of people wanting him further out of the political process, and will want him to have less influence. Judging by what I see here, he'll get marginalized just for frightening people with running, and potentially bring the Democratic Party nearer to the center to make up for the lost votes.

But if we offer to give him more of a voice in exchange for not doing this...do you think he'd back out?

1. no
because he's not running for money. He's running for ego, and nothing will change that.

I do expect that the next PIRG canvasser to knock on my door will be disappointed, and I'll tell him exactly why I will no longer support any Naderite organization.

2. Yeah, I considered that possibility...kind of.
He runs: more people don't like him.

He doesn't run: we give him plenty of money to promote his agenda.

It's actually considering that that I think made me think of this.

3. he's already being bribed....where do you think he's getting the
money to run? The repugs will be throwing cash at him right and left....he should be ashamed of himself. Even the Greens don't want him.

5. Almost agree with you
With the exception that he refused to accept the Green Party nomination.

Ralph Nader is a scabby scumbag, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't respect objectivity and cold facts - such as him being a scabby scumbag.

4. Great idea!
I am sure that he has a price to match his huge ego.

But not for an organization. He does not have any. Those that he had removed his name and distanced themselves from him because after he single handedly put Bush in the White House many dropped their support.

Why bother to vote for Nader? Vote for Bush directly and cut the middle man. And be ready to have all Internet surfing and posting on this kind of message board monitored according to Patriot act X. Even better, close down DU. And have new supreme court justices rolled back Roe v. Wade and other laws that protect our civil liberties. Hey, perhaps we can move back to unlimited child labor and unlimited hours of work with no paid vacation or sick leave.

And we can start drilling in Alaska and forget any pollution control.

Now, that's the supreme irony: a man who made his name as consumer advocate will be the single cause for rolling back all the measures of consumer protection

With some good luck he will be the victim of unsafe products.

6. A better idea would be
for Nader to run, collect a ton of Freeper money (which of course they'd send him to stop a Dem of course) and then quit--give the money to a good cause. It'd be hilarious. Of course, I don't think Nader is wired this way.

7. He prefers his bribes from Bush and the right wing
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 09:55 PM by Democat
How much money will the right wing put into Nader's campaign this year?

Probably many millions of dollars.

Nader will be one of Bush's best allies in 2004.

8. I'd like to see him run to prove once and for all that a 3rd Party doesn't
stand a chance. He'll be lucky to pull 1% this time. I hope he also starts a message board for his supporters too so we don't have to listen to them bitch when he does poorly and loses.

10. i can't believe i'm reading this...
:wtf:

call the man what you want, i don't care. you think he's an asshole? fine. you think he's a scumbag? fine. i don't agree with you, but i won't stand in your way.

but you have to admit one thing:

the man's integrity is unimpeachable. he is absolutely unbribeable. this is a well-earned reputation from over 40 years of activism, untainted by multiple bribe attempts, smear attempts, and whatever. anyone who's at all familiar with nader and his history will realize that he's not running in alliance with any republican anything. that has to be one of the most ludicrous conspiracy theories i've ever heard.

DISCLAIMER: before you ABB-ers start a-flamin', realize that i'm ABB this time around, too. i just don't believe that the bizarro-world situation in florida should condemn and overrule a LIFETIME of tireless and incredibly effective activism.
