Dennis Kucinich may be right about war being THE issue convention time
On NOW with Bill Moyers, Deborah Amos, reporting from Iraq, posed the scenario that the misadministration will keep it's word, and turn Iraq over to the people on schedule, and that by August, in time for the Dem Convention, there will be chaos in Iraq, and people taking to the streets, which will fill the news here.

So, it's very possible that once again the war will be in the forefront.

Dennis could very well be right.

1. No doubt Dennis was right to resist the invasion
He knew Bush was lying (and that's one reason he's a bit of an "embarassment" to the other candidates who'd like to exclude him from debates).

He's also right about getting out of Iraq. If the Iraqi people aren't allowed to write a Constitution that bars the United States from privatizing its banking and industry, then what they'll get is just a pathetic shell of a war-torn nation (the other side of the coin of what Russia got in Afghanistan - "capitalist" versus "communist" puppet government).

The Iraqis should be able to throw Halliburton and the other war pirates out. The way Bremer and Bush are setting it up they'll have no choice in the matter.

Of course there'll be chaos in time for the elections. But the short-sighted Democrats (other than Dennis), ignore the problem and hope it'll just "go away" sometime.

Not.

that quote about "the choice is between a Republican war and a Democratic war" or him was pure horses***.

4. no it wasn't
Kerry and Edwards both voted for IWR. Edwards in particular is very proud of his vote. Niether have any plans to get us out, and frankly, you can expect a draft whether we have a Dem or a Republican in office, because we won't be leaving there any time soon.

7. I was being sarcastic. The Occupation is still WAR.
A Democratic War under Kerry would involve putting in 40,000 troops to replace Guard and Reserve troops. We don't have 40,000 troops available if you check the rosters and rotation schedules. Can you say "draft?"

Edwards doesn't want to get out of the Occupation War, just get some allies, those same "allies" that wouldn't go in with us for our aggressive war against a sovreign nation to begin with.

Neither will kill the U. S. looting of Iraqi businesses and resources. (Either privatization into hands of our choosing r outright taking of their businesses and resources.)

I forsee opposition jelling before the election.

5. And if he IS proven right
we'll be very, very sorry if our nominee is an 'us too just not as much' democrat.

Imagine that debate! :scared:

6. Bush apparently thinks so
or he wouldn't have stupidly set a precise pre-election date for handover. Naturally, events are exceeding Bushco's capacity for spin, so they're softening on the timetable and trying like hell to lure the UN in (while arrogantly refusing to cede rights as the sole arbiter of "reconstruction" contracts. Good luck George, you greedy dumbass).

8. Handover with Extra-national Privatization Allowed Will Bring Chaos
Only Kucinich understands that only by preserving Iraq's resources, banks, water, electricity, and telecommunications for Iraqis do you make possible the restoration of true sovereignty for Iraq.

The private war pirate contracts of Halliburton, Bechtel, and others are the evil that will undo the ability to make peace in Iraq.

The scenario will spin out of control this summer.

Then Bush will cash in on the pain and death of others to look "Presidential" while warning all of us we're still at war on terror.

Even better, from Bush's standpoint, is if his "Occupying the West Bank Worked so Well for the Israelis We Wanted One of Our Own on the Tigris" hornet's nest of terrorized resentment spawns the ability to strike (as Palestinians do) inside the territory of the United States - more attacks at home will provide the rationale for Bush to erase whatever civil (and electoral) liberties still (barely) remain in the United States.

Dennis was, and is, right about Iraq.
