Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 12:56 AM by WillyBrandt
Which of the following is the best descriptor for those who claim to be progressive, but who are not ABB?

2. People we should at least try to be polite to? :-)
I disagree with those who refuse to vote for the nominee, but I am willing to respect their decision. I do reserve the right to post long, pontificating threads on why they should vote Dem in 2004, however. :)

5. I think both approaches are valid.
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 12:42 AM by Feanorcurufinwe
One operates at the intellectual level, one at the gut level.

I kinda think that the subconcious realization that ones actions actually are helping Bush might be more persuasive than reading a treatise on the subject.

But non-ABBers aren't crazy, strictly speaking. They're wrapped up in symbolism and ideology.

I'm done letting Bush and the Bush-enablers and quislings run thing with nothing but a smile from progressives. I'm all for fighting back.

8. I try
I tend to fail, though. I get tired of some of the rhetoric, that tends to forget these results are from elections.

It doesn't help that I'm somewhat cranky. So if I've pissed off any nABB proponents, I'm sorry.

27. We're all a little cranky. And we like tit-for-tat posts
I'm as guilty as anyone else--my own manifestos for voting Dem in 2004 usually come out of reading the thread of some other DUer who isn't convinced about voting Dem in this election. And almost every DUer I respect (including myself) has posted a really base, rude, impolite thread that really has more to do with the emotion of the debate than any true animosity towards the other side.

Empathy is in short supply around here, so whenever I remember mine, I try to act on it quick. :D

20. "Suicide-Bomb-Voter"... A Self Destructive Martyr, Seeking Validation
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 01:01 AM by arwalden
Obviously I mean this figuratively and not literally. But the effect is the same... these are people who feel so disconnected that they choose to behave irrationally and selfishly.

These provocateur messages are an attempt to gain the attention and "acceptance" that they desperately desire. At this point, they do not care about the consequences of their planned course of action. They merely crave attention... any attention at all... even if it's negative attention.

It's their way of stomping their feet and shouting "we're here, look at me"... yet their actions only serve to further isolate them. They will drive themselves into political impotence. They are permanently cementing their position as being lunatic fringe.

They are becoming gross caricatures of everything that's negative about themselves. It's pretty disgusting really.

-- Allen

Edit: typo.

I'm sorry WillyBrandt, but I fear you've gone too far this time. Now you are libeling many on the board and just creating more divisiveness. We should be working to unite all progressives, not continue to divide. Hatred will get us nowhere. This is a new low for the board, now I guess we start to alienate our own members.

I for one was never ABB, I would never have supported or voted for Lieberman. Well, I don't have to worry about that now, thank goodness.

ABB is a tired old horse that gets trotted out each time someone wants to make a point (either against or for.) It's time to put this horse to pasture. The number of logical fallacies with ABB are astounding, it's nice to say, but if you really mean it then you'll vote for, say, Zell Miller or Lyndon LaRouche happily.....

It let's folks see what the Democratic Party has become. Gov. Dean had it right when he said that we have lost our sense of community.

38. I was always willing to vote for the candidates I didn't like
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 01:22 AM by WillyBrandt
Including Lieberman, so long as it meant getting rid of Bush. I would have voted for the proverbial ham sandwich.

I'm not a baby. I know this election isn't about me. It's about getting over this horrible aberration in our nation's history, and I'll do what I can to make it pass as quickly as possible.

And I'm not terribly concerned about the tender feelings of the anti-ABB crowd. I was once four years old myself; and they'll heal.

And I thought "libel" implied falsity? I don't see that.
