Bush campaign prepares ads targeting KUCINICH
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 10:58 AM by Mairead
Unlike some DUers, BushCo is taking Dennis Kucinich's prospects for the nomination seriously: the Washington Post reported on ads Bush is planning to run against Democratic candidates John Kerry and John Edwards should they get the nomination. According to The Post, Republican strategists have also "prepared a couple of ad scripts targeting long shot Dennis J. Kucinich."

I hated that movie but I love Dennis! That's a cute name, and it has some truth to it, LOL. If Dennis *IS* Seabiscuit and wins the nomination I'll vote for him happily in November.

Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 02:00 PM by Mairead
Kucinich has stood in 14 general elections and won 11 of them, 6 as the challenger, 3 while seen as a longshot against an entrenched GOP incumbent.

That is a better record than Kerry's, and incomparably better than Edwards's.

Do try to keep some perspective, okay?

GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEADS- WHEN YOU RUN AROUND WITH THE CANDIDATES NAME OR FACE PLASTERED ON YOUR POSTS AND TREAT OTHERS LIKE SH*T, IT REFLECTS ON YOUR CANDIDATE!

I know this as a Kucinich supporter, and while I'm not perfect, at least I make a G-damned EFFORT to show a little of my candidates integrity!

24. Here's the deal, dude...
Kucinich is our version of the Gary Bauer.

1) Do you REALLY think Gary Bauer could WIN the Presidency?

2) Wouldn't you just LOVE the opportunity of running against Gary Bauer??

3) You do know Gary Bauer supporters run around stating things like "He could win, given the opportunity".

4) We would SLAUGHTER Gary Bauer because he's a fringe candidate.

5) This is the REAL world, not some liberal or conservative utopia, therefore neither Gary Bauer nor Dennis Kucinich will EVER win a nomnation for the Presidency.

say they know that....if Kucinich went up against Bush...he would beat him. The fact he is being so marginalized should give you a clue.

Check out his stands on the issues. He is clearly the polar opposite to the man everyone here clearly detests...bush.

Instead of running scared of bush...we need to take a deep breath, get our feet under ,us dig in & stand up to the bully. Instead we are all so afraid and run around like scattered chickens.

One thing I work very hard at never doing, is lie to myself ...or others.

65. Just as there is much disagreement among dems on this board
so also there is much disagreement among republicans all over this country.

Most of them aren't going to have the honesty to admit to themselves they screwed up by voting for shrub the first time, so theywill again.

However, many realize that Dennis Kucinich's positions are founded on the same principles they believe in. Protecting American jobs, protecting American freedoms, and ending corporate cronyism and control of our government.

Texas republicans especially like him because they absolutely HATE NAFTA and the WTO. Most of them voted for Perot and they will most happily vote for Kucinich if he were the nominee.

Ending NAFTA and getting out of the WTO is a plank in the Texas Republican Party Platform.

No, actually London bookies are giving him a 1 in 200 chance of getting the nom, and every pundit agrees that any Dem nominee will walk into November with a minimum of 47% in their pocket, guaranteed.

The plain truth of it is they know if the voters get a real dose of Kucinich's platforms- you know the people like me who have been laid low by all of Bush's fucked up policies- he has a real shot at being the Nominee, and worse there ain't much they can hit him with!

caused by a candidate who shows a clear difference between himself and Bush can you? It would be surprising if you could after supporting a man whose entire presidential run is based on

"don't blame me for my votes on the war, occupation, Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, NAFTA, Colombia, Yugoslavia etc; it's not my vote that's the problem, it's what Bush did with the power I gave him - don't blame me for my suck-ass health care plan that will keep big pharma happy waaaaaaaaaaah" :cry::cry::cry::cry:

Now Kerry must face up to those tough questions

Republicans will focus on senator's love of lobbyists

Paul Harris in Washington
Sunday February 15, 2004
The Observer

John Kerry, the Democratic favourite to face George Bush in the US presidential elections, has taken millions of dollars in financial backing from special interests and lobbyists. Kerry, who has made fighting special interests a key part of his campaign, has also backed legislation favouring some of his donors and written letters on behalf of corporate backers.

<snip>

Kerry - like Bush - has recruited an army of 'bundlers' who skip around strict campaign finance laws by gathering $2,000 cheques from friends and employees into bundles of $50,000 or $100,000. Kerry has 32 $100,000 bundlers and 87 $50,000 bundlers. They come mainly from powerful law firms, real estate companies, financiers and lobbyists.

Kerry has received more money . Some of Kerry's close links with lobbyists have raised eyebrows among supporters used to his campaign slogan: 'From the moment I take up office, I will stand up to special interests.'

Kerry has strong ties to lobbyists for the telecommunications industry. Michael Whouley, a top Kerry political aide, is a registered lobbyist for telecoms giant AT&T. Kerry has also taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from Boston lobbying firm Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky. Kerry's brother Cameron is a lawyer for the company which represents communications firms and the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association.

Between 1999 and 2002 Kerry sponsored two law bills and co-sponsored six more that were seen as advantageous to CTIA's interests. One of Kerry's main bundlers, Chris Putala, is employed as a lobbyist by the CTIA. 'We are beyond the point of whether he takes money from special interests, but rather what, if anything, has been done in response to the funds,' said Steve Weiss, spokesman for the Centre for Responsive Politics watchdog.

<snip>

But Paul Davis, co-founder of internet firm Predictive Networks, has seen the process of how fundraising and legislation mix. Kerry met a top Predictive executive on 25 July, 2000. A day later Kerry introduced a Senate bill that would allow internet firms to monitor what their consumers were viewing and that Predictive had been lobbying for. In February 2002 Predictive chief executive Devin Hosea threw a fundraiser for Kerry in Boston. Kerry was given a lift back to Washington DC in a private jet. Hosea threw a second fundraising party that summer. In the end Hosea become one of Kerry's $100,000 'bundlers' .

Media chiefs back Kerry campaign ((Murdoch))

Owen Gibson
Tuesday February 10, 2004

<snip>

Fresh from his latest win in Maine, the favourite to challenge George Bush for the US presidency has secured the financial support of some of the most powerful media moguls in the world.
As John Kerry's campaign to secure the Democrat nomination - and with it a crack at the White House - continues to gather pace, it has emerged that it is being bankrolled by key executives from News Corporation, MTV-owner Viacom and Sony.

<snip>

Mr Chernin, one of Mr Murdoch's most trusted lieutenants, is among several media chiefs who have pledged to raise between $50,000 and $100,000 to support the Vietnam war veteran's campaign for the White House.

Others who have pledged to raise more than $50,000 include the Viacom chief executive, Sumner Redstone, and Sony chairman Howard Stringer, whose name has recently been linked with the vacant chairmanships at ITV and the BBC.

7. Because Kucinich would be the worst thing to happen to Bush
Someone who stood up to him on every single one of his disastrous fiascoes, and who is now being proven more prescient every single day.

Only DK has a comprehensive plan for a post-W world.

8. DK -- the non-Republican
Can't we just try it for a change? Don't we really want a change?

Don't we have a lot of ground to cover before we even get this country back to the center?

16. We want serious change
The country at large does not. That's why candidates like Dean and DK never had a chance.

12. I hope Kerry and Edwards
are prepared to stand by Kucinich. I've got a bad feeling the RNC will be using him to "smear" the other two by association -- "John Edwards and Radical Dennis Kucinich are two peas in a pod when it comes to stifling free trade..." :-(

job loss in this country and the growing anger over 'outsourcing' - I really don't think this administration is going to be able to smear anyone for being 'stifler's of free trade'

would it not be funny if the Republicans and Bush* gave Dennis Kucinich the respect that he cannot find in his own party?

good. Dennis can deflect any bush ad. The big plus is that they're spending their 200 million...the more they spend the less they have for the GE.

Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 01:39 PM by snoochie
I'm thisclose to not even being ABB.

I'm so sick of what this party has become.

In November I'll vote for Imperialism Lite tm, but it will be my last vote enabling this pitiful excuse for an opposition party.

I'll vote against Bush in November, but I'm >----< This close to leaving the Party, after this Primary. I'm sick of what we've become and how low we will stoop just to get a "D" in the office.

73. I am leaving the party after this primary
I love Kucinich, and a few other Democratic leaders, but for the most part democrats just serve to remind me why republicans are winning.

Even the much-adored CMB voted with republicans to overturn clinton's ban on the LSRA, which enabled the disasters which are WorldCom and Enron.

I'm voting for Kucinich in the primary, then switching my registration to Independent.

76. Why not switch it to another Party that represents your views?
I'm thinking of switching to Green after this election, but who knows. There are many Parties out there, I'm sure you could find one that suits your views. If you like Kucinich (and I sure do too!, he's my first choice) you could considering going over to the Green party. I'll vote Dem in this election, but that's probably it for me, too. Who knows, maybe the rest of the Dems will grow a spine and I'll stick with 'em....

82. Good point
The Green Party is certainly a possibility. Seeing the response he's received from THAT party, it's probably a safe bet I'll agree with their platforms.

I have the same hope you do, that Dems will suddenly have an epiphany and realize that standing up for your own values is a good thing, but I've been waiting for that since 2000, then since '02... if they do, I'll certainly be back. But I'm not going to hold my breath.

80. So what you are saying is since there is a hole in the ship
you are leaving it instead of plugging the hole.
Your vacuum cleaner bag is full so instead of changing it you toss out the vacuum.

Dont be so quick to jump ship.

Don't take your marbles and go home Stay and fight!!!!
Make the party be what it should be. Truly inclusive.
Weakening the power of a unified vote against Bush helps no one but Bush.
E pluribus unum - out of many one
Why help bush by making his opposition weaker

84. No, the Ship has already sunk.
The right analogy is that some are still floundering in the water floating on a few scraps of the old ship, trying to put them together, frantically, but with little hope of ever reaching shore.

It's time to break off of the two party system and fight for real change, after we get Bush out of office of course. The Dem Party died in the late 90's, and they've been dead in the water ever since. The Bushistas and the "pink-tutu Dems" killed the last of the Party's ability to function or challenge the Repugs.
