Apologies to all concerned
This may not be the right forum for this post, but this is where I have done damage. So if this post has to be moved, so be it.

To all DUers whose toes I have stepped on with personal invective, I apolgize. It really isn't my style.

I promise I will work on conducting myself with decorum in the future.

2. "It really isn't my style"
Therein lies the problem. Just by being constantly bombarded with all the vitriol, a lot of good people are becoming harsher and harsher. I see it in me, and I've seen it in others. Nastiness begets nastiness.

That's why a lot of us are giving up. We don't wish to become what we abhor.

I hope you can "overcome". Some of us know we can't.

Good luck.

Kanary

3. It really is a shame
There are few things I like better than politics. I guess I am a glutton for punishment, but I was hardwired that way. I am the product of four generations of yellowdog democrats.

For me, it goes back to the age of seven, when I stood in the parking lot of a shopping center with my parents to listen to a campaign speech by John Kennedy in 1960.

We are all passionate about our politics or we wouldn't be on this site, and that's good.

I was just hoping for some thoughtful and civil discourse on issues and differences. Maybe we can come together in time.

Our cause is too important to give up on. Please try and hang in there.

5. Hey littejoe!
It takes a big person to apologize publicly like you have. Many here will, others will not. It increases my respect for you. It is very difficult to remain civil, especially when the former rules have gone. We live fairly close so I imagine you deal with much the same craziness where you live, it tends to make one a bit nutty at times. A post like you just posted goes a long way to keeping us all together and I thank you for it. This place is wonderful but degenerates sometimes. It waxes and wanes. It will be different soon.

4. It is so difficult

when the goal is so important.
When the climate of debate is too hot, too steamy, and
the opposition so vile.

But as you are now demonstrating, we must prove ourselves
worthy of better leadership, greater courage, and more
profound thinking.

Thank you for your apology. It is a hard thing to do, and you did it unequivocally.

on edit ... mistyped not for 'now'

8. Accepted, but don't lose your fire!
State your positions, for a good discourse is what we all need. We don't need to "bring people over to our side" in a discussion to win, just the sharing of ideas is where the true power is. I always learn something, even from those I don't agree with!
