So, how is bashing Nader working for everyone?
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 05:17 PM by Padraig18
Has it inspired you to go register someone to vote? Has it caused you to write a check to your candidate or to the DNC? Has it caused you to call your local party and volunteer to do whatever needs to be done, even if it is somewhat uninteresting, like going over voter rolls, or licking and stamping envelopes?

I'm over Ralph, and I'm not going to waste one more second of my precious time even acknowledging his existence, if I can help it.

My $.02.

1. Perhaps I should follow your lead
I just get so frustrated with some people. I feel like I should be able to convince them that, not only are Kerry and Edwards not as bad as they believe, but that even if they were, Bush is far worse.

I'm starting to think I should just give up, though. It's just that my conscience doesn't particularly like giving up on things like this, though.

6. You fight fire with fire, and you fight votes with MORE votes!
Forget about him, and go out and help us find NEW Democrats! Ralph will do what Ralph will do, and all the gnashing of teeth won't change that.

We've got work to do, and precious little time left to do it in! :hi:

2. It's Working Fine For Me, Dr. Phil... Thanks For Asking! <LOL>
Very cathartic and energizing. It like being able to beat the living shit out of someone in a drunken after-hours bar parking lot brawl. Only no bruises... and no cuts. :hi:

It's hardly fair if you think about it though. We do have the upper hand.

9. people are scared
and with good reason. Blame who you want but Nader votes coved the margins in 2000 and bush was installed in power for four disastrous years. the mere thought of a repeat (unlikely IMHO) scares the bejesus out of everyone and thus the venting and anger healthy or not.

22. Plenty of reasons for Gore not winning...
... and Nader is just one of 'em. He's not solely responsible, by any means, but he may have been the one person with the most power to control the outcome in the campaign's final days (short of Bush dropping out :)).

Ralph made a choice, and the world has to live with it.

16. It's going just great, thank you
It's not inducing me to do anything right now, I've already done all that I will until after we have a nominee, but the sense of there being an outside threat is making me feel like I, and most of the rest of us will be able to really unify and rally around our candidate, even if he wasn't the one we wanted.

I'm actually seeing alot of unity here among people from all different camps, and that actually feels kind of good.:-)

18. It's not working out well for me...
I'm seeing election 2000 all over again. The past 4 years I have finally been able to set aside my seething hatred for Nader and now I am boiling with rage. Maybe I can put that rage to good use and raise more money for Kerry, but I'm still pissed.

Instead of having a united front on the left we are again fractured and splintered. Dean supporters are jumping ship to Nader or saying the are going to write Dean in on the GE. Kucinich supporters sound as if they are one step away from backing Nader. And we're hearing the same B.S. we heard about the DLC and the DNC and basically the bashing of the entire party that we've had to endure since 1999.

I'm sick to my stomach.

21. I honestly don't think it will matter
And if it does, there is nothing we can do about it. Nader will do what he will do. It's just a factor now.

I guess I'm developing a zen-like acceptence of things as they are. All we can do is hope that the anger some are feeling will lessen to the point that they will vote for the nominee, even if it pisses them off.

And then there are some who will go to Nader, but wouldn't have voted for someone like Kerry anyway, so it's not really a factor.

I think the amount of longtime Democrats who are going to vote Nader this time around is very small.

Remember, DU is it's own little reality, but it's not reflective of the "real world" or we would have President Kucinich or something. ;)

That's why they had to form a club.

Maureen, an ordinary Liverpool girl, was his first wife and they had two sons. She died in 1994.

29. I'm not "over Ralph".
I like Ralph Nader, respect him and think he's got the interests of democracy in mind above all else.

His intent to announce prompted me to write him another e-mail and to order some more CDs for Kucinich. I'll resell them and donate any profit to the Kucinich Campaignn keeping a single copy of each for fundraising and other party efforts.

Hate Nader? Go right ahead. Suggest he should shut up and sit down and my answer is a hearty get bent.

43. Think about Greek tragedy.
Our hero, the Nader-basher, anticipates catharsis, but too late he realizes that being the champion of Operation Enduring Triangulation transforms him into something he didn't used to be.

At that point he doesn't need the Furies to chase him off a cliff. It would be redundant.
