And there is another candidate that I dislike quite a bit.

I could make quite an issue about 'the slimeball', post alot of threads because this person has a record that absolutely
disgusts me.

But I don't. That candidate has alot of supporters here. And I respect that.
I talk about the slimeball with family and friends, but keep my mouth shut about it here at DU.

It's really not hard to do.

So WHY are there a select few DUers that constantly start horrible threads about candidates they don't like?
Does it fill some void in your life? Do you get joy when you piss off alot of people? Do you suffer from low self-esteem?

1. Much better to start threads
telling everyone what you LIKE about your candidate or the candidates you are considering supporting.

Isn't it better to start a thread, get some bashers, but convert one person to your cause?

There are people on here who post the same fucking shit, over, and over, and over, and they do so, not to make people aware, but to make themselves the star for the day. This whole relentless bashing shit is ridiculous. It's just flame bait, nothing more. Some of them go off the board and brag about coming here and pissing people off. That's just ignorant, and immature.

11. there is a difference between serious discussion
and name calling. I think that the latter was what the OP was referring to. Positions taken by candidates can be argued--calling any candidate a name stops discussion.

20. One thread opens discussion;the other closes it down
This is to be a DISCUSSION board. If my candidate loses the primaries, and the candidate called Slimeball by some wins, what will I know about Candidate Slimeball from name calling threads? There must be a serious discussion of the issues. You are free to disagree-and I have strong disagreements with several candidates on different issues--but name calling doesn't help.

39. I'll attempt to answer
although I don't think I am one of those posters.

I have notices a tendency during the primary for some people to stick up for candidates no matter what. It's almost like a religious fever. People tend to get so excited about a candidate that they fail to step back and admit no one is perfect (this goes for all the candidates). For example if a candidate slighted a whole group of people it is much easier for the people that support the candidate to make excuses than to see the other sides pain or displeasure. The other side wont give up on something they see as a fundamental issue and then neither side progresses to an understanding. It becomes a smaller version of "your either with us or against us." Its easier to attack a poster or a candidate than to tackle the issues at times.

42. Answer is that it's easier to attack than promote.
It's an intellectually lazy way to promote your candidate. It's easier to criticize than defend.

Most folks view politics in the same way they root for their favorite sport team. Instead of talking about why their team is the best, most sport fanatics will talk smack about the team they dislike. They'll point out and blow up any small flaw in their opponent. They usually are the same ones that take any attack on their preferred candidate personally. Heck, I sometimes fall into that trap when someone launches a smear attack in a thread I started about Richardson.

They also seem to think that what they post on our board is going to have some significant influence on this political campaign. The polls show that to be false.

Fortunately these types of posters tend to be in the minority. Unfortunately they are some of the most prolific posters on the board.

54. I don't understand it either
There's one thing when someone posts their opinions on a candidate, why they chose who or why not. But the constant twisting of things gets quite annoying.

I've learned to just ignore certain people (though I don't put them on actual ignore).

What I really don't get is when there's a positive thread for supporters, people have to post their negative crap in it.
