I mean, without the 36 day delay and the SCOTUS handing the decision?

What I think would be so much fun for us is if W "won" the popular vote by 300K votes, but lost the electoral college by 20 or so? And no state would have to really go through what Florida had to endure?

I would love to see the W supporters try to say that their guy was really "still" the pResident.

Of course, with the media still firmly liberal </sarcasm>, we know that our candidate would be portrayed as a "usurper".

4. Well, DUH! Neither do I! But think, it would be fun mocking the
jerks that say "Wait, the machines must have tallied wrong! We know that Bush won! Count all the votes!!"

There were plenty of Repukes calling for the elimination of the Electoral College after Clinton beat Dole in 1996. Or they were asking to rewrite the Constitution so that it wouldn't be a "winner take all, loser gets nothing" situation with the EC.

2. impossible
for that to happen, at least a few states must be rather close, and therefore the repukes would disputes and insist on recounts and accuse us of fraud, etc.

can't happen without getting ugly.

and then, when if the democrat managed to win, he would be neutered because the media would insist that a president elected from such a close election must reach out to republicans and be bipartisan, etc., all the things they should have said 4 years earlier but only really apply when the work in the republicans' favor....

3. NO! can't stand another one that close again! LOL! I'll have a stroke!
And if it's by 300 votes somewhere we's go into an auto recount and endless litigation. They's steal the fucker and there would be mass freeper hysteria again to listen to during the litigation.

Ugh! I'm having flashbacks.

5. It'd be better if we won popular AND electoral vote.

7. I completely agree
...It would be SO so much better
if we just won outright

you know, so many people can tell you
where they were when they learned of the 9/11 catastrophe

how many of you remember exactly where you were
when the Spreme COurt stopped the recount?

I can

6. I would welcome a 1876 style electoral commission
it would piss people off and lead to the destruction of the electoral college.
