I'm a Clarkie, but I HEARD him say on C-SPAN
something like "if Kerry implodes, it will be over an (take your pick) internal/intern issue." It was as plain as day as he worked the crowd after a speach someplace, just before he dropped out of the race.

I know I heard it, because I wondered if I heard him correctly and thought to myself: what the heck is he talking about.

I know I'm not crazy enough to make this stuff up. Did anyone else hear this?

1. Nope
and I watched ever piece of video I could. You don't remember anything else about the event?

Why are you bringing this up?

5. some other posters are debating this
I am not saying anything bad about Clark. I LOVE him. I worked for his campaign in NY and will vote for him in the primary. (after which I'm ABB.)
But quite frankly, in order to be credible, I think we have to tell the truth. I know what I heard. Clark said something like this and Drudge used it as the basis of his attack on Kerry. Clark needs to clear it up, for his (Clark's) credibility and so the truth comes out. As long as other people keep this rumor alive, it hurts Clark and Kerry. That is all I am saying.

2. I didn't hear it myself, but I have heard that he did indeed say this.
There is apparently a big deal about it in print somewhere.

7. well again,
I am not saying I heard this because I read it on Drudge. I repeat, I heard it with my own two ears as he left the stage during live C-SPAN coverage. I didn't tape it, and don't remember the event because I watched everything I could.

6. He said "an INTERNAL issue." Gert Clark pointed that out last week
when the Drudge flap first broke.

Besides, the woman in question--whose name I've forgotten at the moment--was never an intern for Kerry. IIRC she is, or was, an AP reporter.

Finally, Ryan Lizza of TNR was one of the reporters present when Clark allegedly made his "intern" remark, and Lizza has since denied in print that Clark said anything of the kind. Since Clark's remarks were officially off the record, Lizza could not go on to clarify, as Gert Clark did, that Clark had said internal, NOT intern.

HUGE, HUGE difference in meaning, as I'm sure you'll agree.

9. thanks, Lando!
If you refer to post number one, I did indicate that he said either "intern" or "internal."
To say it didn't happen at all when it clearly did, then put someone down because they have evidence contrary to your opinion,is a republican tactic.
We should be a bit more open minded here in DU.
