Poll question: Ok, based on the actual trends, Who do you think is going to win the Dem nomination?
I am not asking about who do you favor, I am asking about trends and predictions. Please feel free to share your conclusions.

1. If I had to give odds, I'd say Clinton 60, Obama 35, others 5.

Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 10:32 PM by Bleachers7
I have no idea. I still think the top three are the only three that have a chance. It depends on too many things which still haven't been determined (and I don't mean elections).

29. any of them could beat the tar out of him.
Have you heard about the mother of the murder/rape victim who's determined to fight him? Huckster pushed for a rapist to be let out of prison. The guy subsequently raped and murdered a young woman. And that's just the tip of the Huckster iceberg.

16. I voted in this poll for the simple reason enough folks
still see HRC as the one person which will beat any of the republicans. Irregardless of one poll in Iowa saying obama has a 3 % lead on HRC. The Pew poll taken after the abc/washington post poll shows HRC 31%-26%-19%. In the national polling HRC 48%-22%-11%.
New Hampshire, HRCleads Obama two to one, 38%-19%. Edwards is close behind with 15%
South Carolina, Clinton also holds a double-digit lead, 35%-21%, over Obama. Edwards is third with 10%.

Good polling for HRC

Ben David

24. I'd disagree strongly.
They raised the minimum wage, enacted the 9/11 security reforms, enacted all sorts of transparency/corruption reforms, expanded veteran care, and expanded student loans. That's more than most years get done--and they did it while holding investigations and fighting repeatedly to end the war in Iraq.

Now: they haven't ended the war in Iraq, they haven't closed Gitmo, haven't expanded stem-cell research, haven't restored Habeas Corpus, etc., etc. The reason they haven't done those things is that the Republicans can filibuster in the Senate and veto in the White House. Blaming the Dems because the Republicans have the White House and narrow minorities in both chambers? That seems silly to me.

25. sounds all good in words, but the realities differ.
the streets aren't feeling all as good as some of those dems think they've done. a little bone here and there, a little bandage on a sucking chest wound. in the end, Bush is still a 'lovely man' that we must not disturb.

What makes anybody think that Edwards could pull ahead to get the nomination? Other than Iowa, I don't see any solid support for him in any other state.

She still hasn't used her advantages yet. As long as she doesn't do anything foolish, putting down Obama, then she will win.

34. Back up a moment and examine Iowa a bit closer...
About 100,000 voters in the state. Of those, about 65-75% are involved in farming or farming-related occupations. About 65-75% are entrenched fundies. About 65-75% are Repugnant.

Iowa is midwest.

Our three leaders have little in common with most Iowans. Candidate getting the brass ring is most likely to be Huckabee.

Our three will probably virtually tie.

And then, we can get on with real elections in the other states.

Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 10:35 AM by sampsonblk
Iowa wasn't invented yesterday. Hillary has been to Iowa many many times, and she knows what's she's up against. What you are suggesting is the same thing that was suggested about upstate New York.

When the time draws near, I have a feeling virtually all the local Dems are going to come out and campaign strong for Hillary, and that will make all the difference. But she's gotta quit being negative against Obama.

36. I don't think IA is nearly that conservative
It is a very "white" state racially, but in other ways it isn't nearly that unrepresentative of the country as a whole. They voted for Gore (barely) in 2000 and Bush (barely) in 2004, but had supported Clinton both times and even Dukakis in '88. They have a U.S. Senator from each party and three of their five U.S. Reps are Dems, so there's no way they could be as Repug or fundy as you note.

(Apologies if I'm taking your post too literally, but I just think IA could be an important state and not one the Dems should write off.)
