The race for president isn't the only one featuring a member of the Clinton family and Barack Obama. Indeed, the just-announced 2008 Grammy nominations pit Bill Clinton against Obama in the best spoken word album category.

Clinton's "Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World" is up against Obama's "The Audacity Of Hope: Thoughts On Reclaiming The American Dream." Former President and previous Grammy winner Jimmy Carter's "Sunday Mornings in Plains: Bringing Peace to a Changing World" is also up for the award.

Presidents and presidential hopefuls are no strangers to Grammy glory. Bill Clinton won best spoken word Grammys in 2004 and 2005, and his wife, 2008 presidental candidate Hilary Clinton, won the category in 1997 for "It Takes a Village."

Obama won this Grammy in 2006 for "Dreams from My Father," while Carter took home the award last year for "Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis."

The remaining two 2008 spoken word nominees are decidedly less political: poet Maya Angelou's "Celebrations" and actor Alan Alda's " Things I Overheard While Talking To Myself."

2. Grammy's can shove it
They decided this year I guess to go for the latest in thing, instead of actually looking at genuine quality. Thats how two of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year were left out. The one I have a gripe with of course is Bruce Springsteen's Magic being left out. I mean to not even be nominated? Jeez Grammy's, I think you fucked this one up real bad.

3. And Springsteen was expected to win!
Not being nominated puts a monkeywrench in that.

Too bad really because The Boss deserves the nod.

5. They specifically released it in Vinyl a week early then the CD in order to make the cut.
He received other noms, but got shut out for anything worthwile. Oh, and Paul McCartney was the other snub.

8. That happened with Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic
... because they also missed the cut-off and that timing mishap inflicted Ms. Dion on our ears for what seemed like an eternity. Oy vey.

11. I do believe the Geneva Conventions specifically prohibits playing that song
because of the cruelty it inflicts ;)

10. But they didnt miss the cut off
Though the album was released on OCt 2, they released it in Vinyl to be elgible for the Grammys. And he was elgible. They gave him noms for all the Rock categories, which they dont bother to show half of them anyway. Its getting kind of ridiculous now. Plus, he wasnt nominated for Song of the year, which goes to the best written song. Maybe the recording industry wasnt pleased with Radio Nowhere which rips the industry a new one, or Last to Die about being the last soldier to die in Iraq for a mistake. Or how bout Living in the Future, about all the things in American that shouldnt be happening that are (illegal wiretapping, rendition, lack of habeus corpus, etc). Whatever it is, Grammy can kiss my Jersey ass.
