Guess what? I have no personal animosity towards your candidate! |
|
They've had to put a radio tag on me, because I may be the last of my kind. The rest of my species loves the look of a gutshot Dean stepping on his intestines, or the weak cough of a Kerry stretched out over the highway by an H2. :D
It's pretty pathetic how DUers are defined by their hatred of one candidate. Dean, Clark, Edwards, Kucinich, Kerry, Sharpton--these are good guys on the whole. I wish we Dems could get together on the nominee, but based on the "non-X DUers:" threads, it seems the more juvenile attitudes of GD2004, with their accompanying tit-for-tat behavior, will be the order of the day. Me, I try to live by the Golden Rule. If I remember my empathy in here, I act on it before I forget it exists. Most people here will hate what someone does to their candidate so much that they can't wait to try it on someone else's candidate. If you had told me that this would happen ad nauseum in a forum of liberal progressives, I would have called you a liar. But now I've experienced GD2004, and I've learned the only thing more important than advancing liberal values is advancing MY liberal values, and sabotaging anyone else who competes for the opportunity. Blech. Here's hoping for more positive threads in the future. :hi:

Meh. Old habit maybe. You have to look at strengths and weaknesses.
This is a crucible. The arguments we use against each other are *not* the arguments Bush will use against us. And we will have heard them already and addressed them already if he tries to use them.
Fleshing out is an important part of the process. Don't knock it.

I tried my very, very, very, very, very best not to develop personal animosity towards any candidate. I gave it my 100% all. A certain candidate's supporters were behaving so badly that I felt it infecting my view of their man -- it's not his fault that some people who put his picture in their DU signatures behave badly -- and so I put many of them on ignore to try to save myself from getting sick. It didn't work. :(
I got very sick of a certain candidate, from prolonged exposure to his supporters. And I am now very grateful that he didn't win.
No, I won't name the candidate, but you all know, anyway, which ought to prove a minor point. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.
Wake me up in November.....

The whiners (Waaaaa!! My candidate didn't win so I'm voting for NA-der!! Waaaaa!!) own the board now. They win. Might as well change the name of this place to WhiningUnderground.
Bush wins by 2.5 percentage points. Nader gets 4 percent. The draft gets reinstated. There are four more wars and lots more dead soldiers and civilians. The Bill of Rights will cease to exist. Patriot Act III, maybe Patriot Act IV, will make my sentiments illegal and you'll see me in Gitmo.
But all these fucking whiners will feel good about themselves -- ideologically pure -- when they vote. That's what's important.

and a bit nasty in the deal too....perhaps you need a mirror to get my point.
DU is not dead...I'd say its very much alive by the fact so many get to express their opinions- whether you agree with them or not, whether it fits your perception of how DU is *supposed* to be- we are still able to do that- express our opinions. We've gotten rather "testy" here before since we started in '01 and I think we'll survive this...maybe not everyone on the board will last, but DU is definitely alive & kickin'!
I would suggest you take a deep breath every once in awhile and try not to label everyone who disagrees with you a whiner..and again...perhaps a look in a mirror might not hurt.
Peace DR
edited to add...remember how that certain candidate's supporters seemed so abrasive to you...ahem...well.....

You're surreptitiously bashing my candidate for having a positive message! I cannot believe you voiced such hidden animosity! ;)

I too have felt lucky, we've had something of an embarrassment of riches this year. I have had no animosity to any of the Democratic candidates.
Lieberman, on the other hand . . . :)
