How are you thinking of voting, in the primaries and general election?
This is not a pledge thread, but a sincere question. I make no judgment about how other people plan to vote. I am merely curious about where people stand at this moment in the election year.

Where I stand: I will vote for Howard Dean on March 2 in the New York Democratic Primary.

If John Kerry wins the nomination, I will support him with a vote, certainly in the GE. If he makes it clear that he wants progressives to take an honored place in his coalition, I will support him financially and possibly even with my time and labor.

If John Edwards is the nominee, as of today, I would say I will not support him in any way at all. I will not support him financially. I will not donate a second of my time to his campaign. And I will not vote for him. I might write in Howard Dean.

I will not vote for Ralph Nader. Period.

1. Mine
I voted for Howard Dean in my primary in Virginia. If, during the General Election, Virginia is close and Kerry(Edwards?) has a chance of carrying the state, I'll vote for Kerry(Edwards?) in the GE. If Bush is carrying the state with no chance for Kerry(Edwards?)I might vote for Nader as a protest vote.

2. it sounds like we're in a similar place philosophically
I've been a Dean supporter since last June. I really want to vote for him, since I don't think the opinions of people in Iowa, NH, etc. should preclude me from voting for the candidate of my choice. But now that Dean has essentially dropped out, I'm concerned that voting for him is somewhat futile.

So at the moment, I'm trying to figure out before March 2 whether either Kerry or Edwards has anything of value to say to progressives. I'm leaning toward Kerry now, because he has a long liberal voting record in the Senate, even though his IWR vote bothers me. But I may still vote for Dean, Kucinich, or Edwards -- I'm truly undecided at this point.

In the general election, I'll vote for the Democratic nominee. My level of support *beyond* casting a vote will depend on what I hear over the next few months.

7. It's not "futile"
Voting Nader in the GE would be futile or voting anything other the Dem or repug (not that I ever would) would be futile in my opinion.

Stick to your beliefs and vote for Dean. We need to keep the movement going.

13. maybe you can answer this
What does it take to get delegates? I thought I heard you have to get 15% of the vote in a US congressional district to get a single delegate from that district.

If that's true, I live in a congressional district that could get 15% for Dean next Tuesday. It won't happen statewide, but if delegates are alotted by cong. district, Dean could get one from here. (It's the 1st Massachusetts district, represented by John Olver.)

25. Vote your true preference in Primaries
According to the information I have, it is the congressional district where the 15% is measured. So, if your district looks like it can make that threshold, vote for Dean and spread the word to others.

In any case, in the system we have, the Primary is the time to vote your true preference, and it is often the last chance you have to let the party know where you stand.

The last thing we want is for the Democratic Party to look at Primary results across the country and decide, "well, Democrats really weren't against the war all that much" or against NAFTA or worried about the Bill of Rights, etc.

26. Voting for Kucinich in Oregon (in mid-May!), Dem nominee in Nov.
Encouraging all who agree with Kucinich's positions to vote for him in all Primaries. He needs more delegate clout for the Convention negotiations on Party Platform. (as well as the off chance it turns out to be a brokered convention.)

4. Dean in the PA primary, Dem in November
If you live a "battleground" state like this, you not only have to vote Dem, but encourage everyone within ear shot to turn out and do the same.

Not becasue I like Kerry or Edwards, but because I love my country and the world.

...that what you plan on doing is just giving one more vote to *. People who say they're going to do this, especially on this board, just boggle my mind.

15. Dean in CA primary.....
...ABB in the general.....Kerry will be our nominee and I'll do all I can to help him. Just because my first choice is out of the running doesn't mean my vote and my voice still can't be heard. Ignored maybe, but heard.

It's important to have Dean's voice at the convention in my opinion. Delegates. Not only did he stir up the young vote but he got a LOT of us (boomers) back into "inspired" mode. We needed him and we still do.

We have yet to see what the whore media plans are for Kerry......$200 million is a LOT of smear money. :grr:
