Poll question: How satisfied are you with the Democratic Party?
On a scale of 0-9? Of course, take into account how they've handled the primaries. Kerry does inspire me, and I'm ABB, but I'd like to see the Democratic party get tougher and stand for liberal principles more. I give them a 5 taking into account the power they have.

1. I'm ABB, but these should all be 5 at most or below

We have a lot of work to do, and electing a few people is the first step.

4. I was just out the door when Clark pulled me back in.
If he's willing to give the sick thing a chance, I guess I can too. But I am disgusted to tears.

Clark and W both played a role for me. My inclination is to drop my party registration if the Dems blow this election, but I don't really know for sure.

I gave it a 3, but that's probably being generous.

5. 4--needs improvement.
But that won't happen until we have teh White House and the majority in at least one of the houses of Congress.

9. I guess 4 would be the middle of this poll, since..
I haven't included the number 1.

6. The Democrats have rolled over when ever the republicans
scream for the last 20 years. They have been the enabling party and it has been really annoying, especially since Bush got in. They have been pretty much spineless and gutless. They have no plan. They react, but don't lead. I'm almost as mad at them as I am at the republicans, but since the republicans are now Nazis, it's hard to put the Democrats on the same level. They better get their act together before the repubs destroy the country - if they haven't already done so.

7. It depends on which party we're talking about.
At the national level, the Democrats are an embarrasment - a bunch of corporate shills, engaging in the do-nothing politics that have got us to the state we're in today. At the local level in many areas, Democrats are progressive and good representatives of the people's interest.

8. Yes, I do mean the national party
Though if you are very impressed locally, you can increase the score you give.

10. Who's voting Zero? What gives?
You mean there's not one thing or person you approve of connected with the Party? Are you expecting nothing less than absolute perfection?

12. There is a song, "If you don't stand for something...
you will fall for anything". And often we "stand" for issues that the majority of Americans do not support. For example-gun control. That by itself costs us how many states every election? Reasonable, federal, state and local restrictions are one thing, but many see us as the party who wants to take ALL the guns...and after 911 and given Patriot, be honest with yourselves and just admit it-GUN CONTROL IS DEAD. Get over it. I could continue in this vein, but I won't.

Instead, why can't we be the party of energy independence? There are plenty of energy resources right here at home, that if economies of scale were applied, could make us self-sufficient in pretty short order. Even coal gasification would be better than fighting over oil. Remember Jimmy Carter's energy plan? And there are tidal harnesses (my favorite), advanced wind and solar power, biodiesel...the list is long. Did you know Diesel designed his original engine to run on peanut oil? It's true.

And again, we should not be the party that tries to run peoples lives-let the Republicans be that party! Seatbelt laws? I believe in choice. Smoking in public places? I believe in good ventilation-and choice. Abortion? I believe in choice. Gay marriage? Up to the individuals choice. Motorcycle helmet laws? My head, my choice. Should I be able to own guns? Up to me, my choice, for which I will take resposibility. Alcohol? Mind your own business. See, I think a lot of Americans are sick and tired of being told what to do on a whole range of issues, and they see the Democrat Party as being the primary vehicle for taking their freedom away. We need to shake this image, and instead become the party that enables and empowers, people.

There are a lot of other things our party could stand for, but mostly we should stand for Freedom. And I don't mean freedom for our corporations to go anywhere and do anything for a buck. I mean support freedom for PEOPLE everywhere, but we need to start right here at home. Let freedom ring!

13. Amazing.......35/87 give the Party a "0"
Pretty sad statement on who is drawn to the DU these days. I suspect we'd get a better showing on FreeRepublic. Thank God this little microcosm of reality doesn't reflect the mainstream's opinion.
