I will take my vote elsewhere... |
|
The media has blitzed out the talk of two of the four primary candidates. I have already wrote the DNC letting them know that the media has continued to cut out Rep. Kucinich and Al Sharpton from coverage. I told them that via media this is voter dis-enfranchisement and that if the Democrat party does nothing about the lack of coverage for all of our candidates I was taking my vote to another party.
I do not care if this is typical behavior from the media. What I want is a party that hears me and acknowledges me and stands behind everyone one of it's candidates. A party that will fight to give every member fair and accurate coverage of it's candidates there-by representing the wholeness of the party. When the party allows a media selection (regardless of the candidate) to occur they are over-riding the power of the people with the influence of the press.
I want my party to fight for equal coverage for all the candidates, if the party can not do that then the party heads are helping select the candidate with the media's help and not the party members. I will bail out if this continues. I implore all the Democrats to contact the party heads and ask why the party is not fighting for equal coverage of all the candidates.

2. I agree that the media should cover Dennis and Al, but |
|
taking your vote to another party will not punish the media. Stay in the Dem party and stay active. It takes time to affect change... but changes do come. Keep your voice heard... make your arguments... the Dems will come around. Remember, it's winner take all in the good old US system... So, stick with us and help us, even if we don't get everything we want right away.

3. This shouldn't surprise you at all. |
|
The Dems and the GOP have been condoning this stuff for a while now.
It's the way of the Two-party politics here in America.
Nothing new.
Best way to protest is to not send any money to DNC and instead, contribute to your candidate.

4. What is the DNC supposed to do? |
|
When most of the media is run by extremely conservative conglomerates and only want to report what will rile up the most people, what should the DNC do to get equal coverage of all of the candidates?
Even if it can get equal coverage time, how should it go about making sure that the coverage is positive for all of the candidates? I remember reading studies four years ago that found that not only are Republican candidates talked about more, Democrats are almost twice as likely to have negative stories about them. (As it was four years ago, the numbers are off, and I don't have the actual story at my fingertips, so no link--sorry.)
I understand your frustration, but realistically, what do you except the Democratic party to do?

5. None of the neo-imperialist candidates need or want your vote |
|
The crusade enjoys wide bipartisan support, and the US voting class is much too busy debating who will do the most efficient job of imposing America's will and securing its natural resources in the region to care about a handful of subversives who oppose American business interests.
The Patriot Act will take care of those suspected of such sentiments after the election.

10. Better we should retreat and submit to the will and direction of those |

who can't garner a majority of support so that we can hand over power once again to charlatan Bush.

14. When the majority of the voters in any country would rather spend a dollar |
|
to kill somebody else's children than a dime to buy medical treatment for their own, whether the policy is articulated in pretty words by a telegenic ectomorph or stuttered out by a mental defective is the least of your problems.

Kucinich has been in every debate. It's not the Democratic Pary's fault if he hasn't gotten more news coverage.
Vote for the Democrat.

9. I hear you, hedgetrimmer -- |
|
-- and have been writing to the networks generally and to ABC particularly for their crappy coverage.
They don't even do a good editing job on the people they DO cover.
Keep your energy focused on the target and let's get Dick Cheney out of power. The man has no respect for a constitutional republic.
And besides, we need you on our side.

11. There's a very simple answer to this. I'm surprised you missed it. |
|
Kucinich's and Sharpton's numbers are low. Very low.
Therefore, very few people are hounding the press to cover them.
Do you really expect Kerry supporters and Edwards supporters to contact the media, and demand they cover Kucinich and Sharpton?

that I think hedgetrimmer means that the DNC should speak up in regards to the rhetoric implying this is now a 2 man race. You see it in the newspapers and on TV. It definitly looks like a two man race yet something absolutly off the wall could happen and Kucinich or Sharpton could suddenly take the race.

The party heads are part of the effort, along with the media, to marginalize the only 2 candidates speaking the truth.

16. Kucinich and Sharpton aren't doing anything newsworthy |
|
Nothing against either one, but they are not fundraising, campaigning, or running ads like the other candidates either.
They both entered the race expecting to add to the debate, which they both have. I think both of their contributions have been valuable to the primary process, and support their contained participation in the debates as well.

17. If you bail out how does that advance your cause? |
|
I'm not seeing how you see your position strengthened by marginalizing yourself.
I keep seeing a lot of DK supporters (and Dean...not so much Sharpton) talking at length about the massive media conspiracy against them but we all know that the fairness doctrine has been dead for years. Moreover, even with the fairness doctrine there was no requirement that someone with 1% support get equal treatment as someone who has 50%+ support.
I think DK is a great guy with some great ideas. I also have yet to see him get enough votes to compete regardless. We knew what this game was about before we started...why are we trying to suddenly act shocked about how it is playing out now? Either way the stakes haven't changed.
But if you think punishing not only this country with 4 more years of Bush(maybe it'll teach the children and elderly a much needed lesson or something)ask yourself what he's going to be doing to people around the world if he reaches the next level of power.
And ask yourself what life will be like in this country not only in 2008...but in all the years after if Bush is able to stack the Supreme Court with even 2 or 3 more Judges....that could last for decades.
I agree with you 200% when you encourage us to fight for change IN our party...but I can't agree with threats to pull out if you don't see the results you want quickly enough. If your timeline doesn't allow for time for the DNC to change...how well does it allow for another Bush term?
