Edwards Campaign Reports Record-Breaking Contributions
Strong finish in Iowa attracts thousands of first-time donors, putting campaign on track for best online fundraising day to date

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Following a strong second-place finish in the Iowa Caucuses last night, the John Edwards for President campaign announced record-breaking online fundraising totals, putting the campaign on track for its best online fundraising day to date.

"We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response to Sen. Edwards' strong finish in Iowa," said Edwards' senior strategist Joe Trippi. "We're on track for our best online fundraising day ever, since www.JohnEdwards.com went up a year ago – and half of the contributions we're seeing are from new donors to the campaign. That speaks volumes to the strength of John Edwards' message of standing up and fighting for the middle class."

6. I like what he says but where does he win?
If not Iowa, where he had so much support, then where? I don't see it.

10. Iowa is not all there is. Second in Iowa
is a big win for Edwards. Beating Hillary gives him some momentum. He needs to keep on going and see what is around the next couple of bends.

22. Edwards did not really become energetic until the month
before the caucus. I listen to his speeches and discussions with voters. Edwards is really just coming into his prime. He knows ho how to pace himself. He is an experienced campaigner. He knew how to handle the Iowa caucuses which are difficult because it all comes down to who you know, peer pressure, etc. When the people of New Hampshire and South Carolina understands that he shares their experience and is close to them, they will also vote for him over the media favorites, Hillary and Obama.

8. How much money?
It's easy to break a record if the bar is already low. Are we talking Ron Paul kind of record or Duncan Hunter kind of record?

15. $50.9-million during the primary period
That period begins Jan. 1, 2008, and formally ends at the party convention next August.

The Democratic Party could spend millions on a summer campaign if a clear nominee emerged by then. Independent groups and individuals also could chip in.

18. Thank you.
I don't think the Party has millions to spend anymore. I just read that yesterday but I'm not sure how accurate it was.

20. I believe you are wrong.
Looks like the Democratic Party has more cash on hand than the Republicans.

21. I'm confused,
the DNC has only $2,783,730. I'm not sure we can allocate Congressional and Senate committee funds to presidential candidates. I'm going to have to read more about this.

24. Obama outspent Edwards 4 to 1 here in Iowa
He outspent Hillary as well. More than a dozen caucus goers in the Obama camp said the two minute TV add Wednesday night at 10:00pm is what swayed them. I asked the Obama campaign persons how much that add cost and they wouldn't say. Fair play to em he had the resources to spend.

Am hoping for an Edwards- Obama ticket. 8 years of Edwards followed by 8 years of Obama is just what this country needs...
