If John Edwards is not the nominee - he would be a great VP or attorney general |

VP needs to be returned to its former essentially meaningless status.

4. Agreed--he brings nothing to the table, and actually has LESS elected experience |
|
and foreign policy experience than Obama. No military experience, no executive experience, no banking/financial credentials for a faltering economy (except the hedge-fund thing). Not a good choice. AG, though, is spot-on.

16. I wonder if he will move out of NC if he doesn't carry the state again. |
|
I wouldn't miss him. No one I personally know supports Edwards. He was too busy running for president when he was playing senator here.

5. He's one of the three I'd like to see as AG |
|
The other two are John Kerry and Eliot Spitzer.
They'd all go get those corporate bastards.

7. I'm not sure he'd accept the VP slot again. |

Though, I could certainly be wrong.

If the leftward shift in America is what it appears to be, we could be in the WH for some time. Eight years as VP in that environment would certainly be a plus.

He brings nothing to a VP slot - and I'm an Edwards supporter. But, he brings nothing because the qualities Edwards has are meaningless in a VP candidate. The guy at the top of the ticket needs to inspire, the #2 needs to reassure. Sometimes the #2 can help motivate an ethnic group to turn out, but another WASP is not going to do it. Furthermore, I don't think Edwards would take the VP slot again, he doesn't like not being able to control the campaign message.
As for AG, again, not his forte. So much focus now is on civil rights issues in the so called war on terror. We may think the war on terror is bs, but the fact is, we need an AG who can thread that needle in how to protect civil rights while combatting a new kind of threat. I would love an AG who would go after corporate greed and polluters (that would be Edwards strength) but isn't going to happen.
NO, although not as "glamorous" or powerful, if Edwards is to take a position in the new administration, it would be better for it to be HHS. That department helps the most vulnerable in our society. Maybe even Department of Commerce, having a hand in economic development, product safety and trade issues.

9. They say a VP choice can only hurt you and rarely helps |

Edwards would be a safe pick because he has a broad appeal.

13. Edwards Brings Nothing To The Table |

I think Richardson would make an excellent running mate to any of the "top three". Richardson has an awesome resume and would help motivate Hispanic voters in the southwest as well as Florida. Richardson's problem with being the front guy is he's kind of dull. No one cares about that in a VP if the Pres candidate is exciting.
The other option is to pick a VP candidate with strong defense/military background.
Edwards is safe, all right, but he most certainly isn't going to help. I understand you are saying the VP is unlikely to help anyway, but I think there are other "safe" VP candidates who might.

17. I would be careful putting Richardson and Obama together |
|
You would have two ethnic groups on top of the ticket possibly energizing the bigot vote beyond belief. Obama might get clobbered in the south and probably lose Florida. Edwards might actually help with a state like Florida. Though Richardson might help bring in New Mexico and Nevada. I would really want to check out how such a ticket would do before taking the chance on Richardson. If it were Hillary and Richardson I think that would be a better combo.

Wonder where the Gopers have been hiding the Sherman Anti-trust Law?
Since it turns out the AG has a huge amount of power (to say what's legal and what's not, and to appoint special prosecutors) he could do a great deal of good there.
Can you just imagine all he could do there? Wow.
