Poll question: Bush strategy -- do you think it's this: |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 02:22 AM by AP
I think Bush has told the media to take all their hits now, on AWOL, criticizing Iraq, etc. etc. He wants to be down now to make Democrats think they have a chance, but he has a plan to inflate his numbers when he needs them to be inflated.
I just saw that post showing that Kerry doesn't need the southern states because he's close in some of the swing states. I think Bush has intentionally let the air out of his numbers to, in part, lure the democrats into thinking, among other things, that they can win without being competitive in the southern states.
I should note that I suspect that Nixon did the same thing, and I've always wondered how Nixon polled at this point before the '72 election which he won, becuase I bet it wasn't good. Guess what? There are no poll numbers for '72 because it took the Dems a long time to find a candidate, or something liike that.
So, who thinks I'm full of shit?

Bush will always push for the biggest advantage he can get. The media will push to keep the numbers as even as possible to keep it "interesting" (hence, improving viewership and ratings)

I am so sure I'm right, and, to be honest, I haven't been wrong about much on DU.

6. Well, in that case well beat him |
|
when he "surges."
If you saw the way the media bashed McClellan about AWOL you'd think they'd grown a spine. Me, I think the rats are leaving the ship and want to chummy up with the Dems in order to keep their jobs.

3. I don't think there's a conspiracy per say, but yeah, I agree. |
|
Basically I think that the news media knows its in their best interest to get out their jabs at Bush before election season. What will happen is that come general election time, the media will note that Bush "fared pretty well" considering all the "shit that hit the fan" which "turned out to be non issues."

8. how about "none of the above?" |
|
there isn't any coordination with bush on the poll numbers and dukakis wouldn't win.
Explain why the individual poll companies; rasmussen, gallup, fox dynamic, etc, would want to work together? They are competitors,it is in someone like zogby's interest to be more accurate for future business ,clients etc.

9. Bush's polling is directly determined by media coverage. Media is |
|
directly controlled by Bush.
Bush is intentionally bringing his numbers down now in a ploy to encourage the Dems to nominate a candidate who can't beat him, and in order to develop a narrative (down, attacked unfairly, good news leaks out, a few successes, media stops talking about war no matter what happens in Iraq, and suddenly the sinking dollar causes blue collar jubs to increas and the media can't stop lauding Bush for this) and that narrative leads to a Bush victory against the Dukakis-like candidate.

10. Your theory then is that he is trying to pick Kerry over Edwards. |
|
I don't know, this whole "bush controls the media", "bush controlled the election", "bush LIHOPed or MIHOPed", "bush will setup jeb for 08", "bush setup saddam in the 80s so he could take him down","bush pulled off the perfect assassination on wellstone","bush has the cia listening in thru your onstar in your cars","bush and kerry are skull and bones setup by prescott and his cronies", "bush gave gavin the go ahead to issue marriage licenses so he could use it as a wedge issue","bush was mean to davis because he was planning on installing arnold in ca so he can steal the state in nov" and on and on. It just gets to be a bit much.

11. This is one of the stranger |
|
conspiracy theories I have read about.
Bush's numbers are down because:
1.Dems have been pounding him 2.There were no WMD's in Iraq 3.People are starting to figure out that the big "economic recovery" does not contain any jobs.

14. (I think "Rove" but I also think it's dangerous to treat Bush like he's... |
|
...not responsible for his own actions -- I think when people blame everything on Rove, it helps Bush create a mood in which he has a better chance of getting reelected -- so I make a point of always saying "Bush" even though I'm thinking "Rove"; it's just a subtle little psychological thing -- don't tell anyone.)
