John Kerry of Massachusetts added three more wins to his victory column Tuesday, sweeping contests in Utah, Idaho and Hawaii over his remaining major rival, Sen. 1. So, Edwards has won 1 state...his birth state. |
|
When the hell is he going to get a clue that he isn't going to be the nominee? He lost BIG last night....not close at all. It's time for the guy to take his war and the patriot act and get the hell out of this race. He's finished.

2. He can't afford to leave before Super Tuesday |
|
Edwards isn't running for the presidential nomination this week. He's running for the vice-presidential one. He needs strong second-place finishes in the Super Tuesday to be a credible running mate. Any more third-place finishes behind Kucinich or Sharpton, or a lot of distant second-place ones, will weaken his case.
These days, I'd put at least even money on Clark as the V.P. nominee. I think that when he entered the race he was genuinely uninterested in the second slot; after all, he wasn't a politician by background. But he's gotten bit by the campaigning bug--he has a full schedule today stumping for Kerry in three cities in Georgia, Edwards's "back yard".

5. Clark would be better V.P. pick for one reason... |

Kerry does have "issues" with some of his national security and defense votes. The repukes plan to hit him hard on his votes. Clark comes to the rescue. Also, Clark is a southerner who I believe will actually be a better campaigner in the south.
If you listenened closely to Clark's final stump speeches, he had usurped the repuke talking points about family values and faith.

3. Edwards has been running for VP from the beginning... |
|
He is one sharp cookie. His "highroad" campaign and message has been very carefully tailored to not offend any other candidate or the DNC.
Unfortunately for Edwards, Kerry thinks he can win without the South...and he can. And does John Edwards really have that much appeal in Dixie? We will see. He must carry Georgia next Tuesday, or there is no rationale for him to continue.
Believe it or not, I think Kerry may go with Gephart for VP. Labour likes (loves) him and he would help in battleground states like Ohio. It will be interesting to see what happens.
I think John Edwards is an ideal replacement for John Ashcroft, myself. And I think as a reward for not brutalizing one another too badly during the primaries, that a place should be found in the new administration for Dean, Clark and Dennis. Sharpton may be on the GOP payroll and I know Lieberman is, along with Nader.
