Today will be a great joy. |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 01:16 AM by cali
I have seen so many nasty posts about Obama over the last day that were utter bullshit, that I'm going to take great pleasure in Obama's win tomorrow- And that's aside from my genuine satisfaction that the candidate I believe will be the best president, won.
My Schadenfreude will be most pleasant.

I expect that nothing tomorrow will be a drag on our spirits- no matter how many insults are thrown our way or how much bitterness wells up in DU.
Go get 'em, Barack. Bring it on home to us.

... because it will just increase the hypocrisy coming from the Edwards camp about how they'll support their candidate to the end after months of telling other to jump on the JE bandwagon, because he's a winner, gosh darnit! And I'm already sick of that after just a few days.

by Edwards supporters. Fortunately, two of them have been tombstoned. Unfortunately, increasing desperation among some Edwards supporters is producing some ugly posts that have no truthful foundation. It's disgusting, so too bad if I take some pleasure in watching Obama win over Edwards and Clinton.

F'in addiction to politics.
Trust me, it was more entrenched in 2003-4. The present hostility is actually kind of mild since there are bridge builders in number.
What I find interesting is that some of the people I was most at war with in 2004 are now on my side.

Kerry supporters were taking just as much pleasure in his victories 4 years ago.
The hardest work is still ahead, and if Obama wins the nom, a huge part of that work will be convincing Clinton's supporters to get out and vote for your man. Attitudes like the one you possess won't sway them.

New Years until a few days ago staying with my sister and brother-in-law. They are getting bombarded by politics and the buzz in the air, even amongst the NON DEMS I was around seemed to be about Obama and that is what I told the two young guys that came to her house that were canvassing for him . I kept all my issues(McClurkin, "kingdom on earth", Lieberman as mentor, not showing up for votes, my all around distrust, etc) with Obama and his obnoxious cult of personality internet supporters to myself, let the boys give their talking points, took their literature (my sister and brother in law weren't available) and told them that I thought Obama would be the chosen candidate even before my state,CT, got to vote in the primary. This made their day. I thanked them for being out there and participating and talking to me and wished them luck. They were excited and I was pleased to see late teens, early twenty somethings involved and so into it.
So, yes, it will be a good day for you and your fellow Obama supporters. I am sure he will win. I also need to eat crow because a bit over a month ago I was confidently proclaiming when the McClurkin crap came out and I was pissed that Obama wouldn't be around after the primaries (when he was consistently behind in the polls). I was so wrong. I don't feel all that bad though because I am not the only opinionated asshole posting here! I still can't stand Obama , but oh well, he is going to win this unless something drastically changes and ,like a BOT, I always vote DEM in the end. :hi:

33. Hey, not many people have the guts to admit what a nasty person they are. |
|
I salute you. I'll get behind your candidate if he wins the nomination, although with much reservation. Lucky for you, I've stopped judging himbased on the caliber of supporters he attracts. Of course many Obama supporters are kind, genuine, informed people who see a spark in this particular candidate. But he also seems to attract knee-jerk worshippers and overemotional "militants without a cause."
I'll let you go ahead and have the last word, cali. You seem to mistake having the last work for winning an argument. Actually, come to think of it, I'm not even arguing with you. I'm agreeing with you. I agree that you are exactly the type of person who enjoys other people's unhappiness and I fully expected you to flood DU with nasty, self-congratulatory rants that are, in truth, more about your ego than your candidate. So what?--you glommed on to Obama last minute while his star was rising. People who rely on Schadenfreude for sustenance also fulfill their egos by misidentifying another person's success with their own personal success. They tend to support winners for the sake of supporting winners.
Schadenfreude is usually something that people accuse other people of, not something that people brag about. But, hey, be proud I guess... If your candidate wins, I'll be happy for you. I'll be happier if he wins the election. I'll be happier still if he actually works out as well as his followers think he will.
