Clark stumps for Kerry in Georgia
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/politics/8038102.htm

ALBANY, Ga. - Former Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark spent Wednesday campaigning around the state for current Democratic front-runner John Kerry.

Clark, who was born in Chicago but grew up in Arkansas, said he decided to support Kerry, rather than South Carolina native John Edwards, because the Massachusetts senator has the best qualifications.

"You can't help where you're born," Clark said during a telephone conference from Columbus Wednesday morning, prior to stops in Macon and Albany. "It's what you make of your life and how you give to others. If you look at what John Kerry has done in his life, he's always been dedicated to public service and he's been someone has the courage to take a stand.

"Southerners admire courage," Clark said. "John Kerry has shown that courage. He's shown he will take a stand even if it's unpopular."

1. I would feel better voting for Kerry if...
I knew for sure that Clark was his running mate. Does anyone have any sort of inside scoop?

4. How would he do
in a debate with Cheney. We certainly don't another Leiberman-Cheney debate Jeesh. I still think the Governor of Iowa or Richardson are the best running mates

7. The only reason I backed Clark
in September with money was because in my estimation he was the strongest candidate on the tube, and came across as sincere, honest and highly intelligent. I have no fears putting him up against the best the republicans got.

12. He would rip Cheney to shreds
and leave the bits of him in a little quivering pile. That is one debate I would really love to see. I'm not expecting to see it, but I would love it.

3. Contrary to the rumors that are spread
on this board, Clark has been promised nothing. He is focused on getting bush out of office, and getting the troops out of Iraq.

His vision for domestic America is great; however, that run is now over. What he got from Kerry is a stump to speak from, and that is what he wants.

I was surprized that he was still after bush for 911. I thought Kerry's handlers would have asked him to tone it down. (Ha! as if...) Anyway, it pisses Clark off that anyone or any administration that was as negligent as bushco prior to 911 could be considered a "hero." In the General's mind, bush fucked up and should be fired. He was on the case today.

I was glad to see that Elizabeth Drew straightened out the IWR rumors as well. It seems that the meme about any flip-flop by the General came directly from the WH, and were feed to his opponents who immediately went with it. She of course cites the Congressional testimony.

ps Those posters who have the nerve to accuse Clark of sucking up to Kerry, not only don't "get" Clark at all, their unwillingness to understand and put away their strawmen make them part of the problem, and in a way enablers of the beasts who are set to take down this democracy.

5. Nicely stated
I think the "suck up" posts were just a case of frayed nerves all around - at least I hope so.

We'll see in the coming days if things get back to normal - or is normal a foreign concept here at DU? :)

So it is difficult to gage how prolific the Clark bashing is these days. I mean the man is no longer running for president, I think it is time to knock it off.

My personal opinion is that if Kerry, the DNC, and the Clintons had any sense at all, they would do everything in their power to get Wesley Clark on that ticket. Why? Because it covers the weaknesses in Kerry's strengths, because Clark can bring you military votes that Kerry can't, because it sells in the South, and finally, because Clark is a goddamn scary smart. That said, I fully expect them to play politics as usual and manage to find a ticket that will offend just about everyone. I'm not cynical, I've just been watching them for a looooooog time.

Now here's something I found in my files, not mine and I don't know who wrote it, but I think it fits the times:

Why I’m even voting, while I can.

There has been much heat and a little light, within this forum, in our nation, and in our world. In my opinion, today’s “issues” (as defined by others often for their own convenience) are less about war, peace, left, right, crime, regulation, stock markets, jobs, or terrorism than about democracy itself. We live at a time when our founding first principles are under assault, and we are on the front line whether we yet realize this or not. It is not terrorists engaging in this assault; it is the force of our own fears, ignorance, and mutual animosities that threaten us, and threaten our democratic principles as a nation.

I know General Clark would agree.

6. My daughter and I came away from his withdrawal speech with
these thoughts (among others): We couldn't believe that he gave his whole stump speech (you know, unjust war, taking advantage of the military for politics, etc. et.) during his withdrawal. He continuously blasted this administration from every angle.

I completely agree with you. He merely wanted to be able to continue the fight in a meaningful way. That is what he has gotten with Kerry. I don't base my feeling about Kerry on the hope that Clark will be VP. I don't see it as being very likely. (Not that I wouldn't love it). And, to be honest, I am so thankful to Wes for doing what he is doing. He is doing just what he said he would - continue the fight to return America to its rightful owners - the people.

All the people who want to pretend that he is out there only b/c of some promise can kiss my ***.
