"Old/New guard" won't hurt Hillary in General election OR help Obama. |
|
Old people vote more than any other group. Secondly, the Democrat's opponent will be an old fart, older than any of the Dem nominees.
Completely irrelevant issue and will probably hurt more than help if "old" people think the youth don't understand terra, which will be the top issue.

1. "Terra" is NOT the top issue with anyone, particularly not the elderly. |

They don't worry about getting blown up. They worry about dying alone, filthy, in agony because they can't get any help or enough medication.

7. Yeah, but let the Bushies stage a terror attack before the election |
|
And that's all we hear about. And it'll scare the old folks most, even if they don't live in a threatened area.
There may be a greater, more realistic threat from poverty or illness, but that will have nothing at all to do with what scares them most, and how they vote because of it.

2. Old people may vote more than any other group, but they sure aren't in this primary |
|
Hillary win's the 65+ group, but it isn't getting her close to a win so far.

6. She isn't winning it by a wide margin... |

...older people don't necessarily always vote for the oldest, most experienced politician.
They vote for people who make them feel like their voice MATTERS, even though they're not whippersnappers anymore.
Clinton isn't reaching out to them as well as she might...

3. I agree it won't hurt Hillary in the general election. |
|
For fairly obvious reasons.

5. And if the young, and parents, can be made to see the looming specter of a draft |
|
Among other things, if Bush's disastrous and expensive foreign policy is continued, the "geezer vote" might not carry the weight it usually carries. Besides, under-50 voting goes up 10% percent in Presidential years.

12. No it wasn't. The Dems were too chickenshit to play it. |
|
I never saw a single ad about it, nor did I hear Kerry or any other Dem leader (except Rangel) talk about it much.
What's needed is a massive ad campaign scaring the shit out of those Security Parents. Except this time I want them to be scared shitless that little Ashley or Tyler might be the ones toting a rifle for Halliburton.
Plus, a lot has happened in 4 years.

10. Electorate snapshot, 1/08 |

From what I see, people are saying
1) what the republicans did to the country and our standing in the world is disgusting. Get me out of this party.
2)Democratic majority didn't do much, we need a brand new approach. As I look around, only Obama seems to speak for me.
3) If you're under 50 , you recognize the first two statements as fundamental truths, and unlike the past, you plan on coming out to vote for Obama because this may finally make a difference, unlike the past.
Record turnouts and huge Obama wins are not two separate events.
