1. If CNN et al. had called Biden a frontrunner 1 year ago like they did about |
|
Obama and Hillary, things would have been different.

3. and if Biden had actually BEEN a frontrunner... |
|
they would've.
But he never was, sadly. I have great respect for Biden, but he never led the field by any measure... not polling, not fundraising, not endorsements.

6. So you're saying that when the Media declared Obama and Hillary as the frontrunners |
|
so long ago, it was actually based on something? Pray tell what?

7. It was based on polling |
|
and fundraising, and national interest.
A year ago, put Hillary or Obama on one cover of Time and Biden on another. Which one would sell more? Do it today? What's the probable result?

8. A popular media storyline is not the best was to pick candidates. |

And what was the polling based on pray tell?
THE MSM decided long ago that Obama Hillary was the best story and they made it so. They crafted the narrative, they advertised it, and they sold it.
We chose from a tiny media-selected group of 3.

11. It's a chicken and egg problem |

people were interested in Clinton and Obama. If you want to argue that every announced candidate was deserving of equal attention, that's just a naive view of how the media work - or even SHOULD work. Clinton and Obama were news stories, based on all sorts of reasons. Biden wasn't.
Now, if Biden had done better, he would've been the story. It's happened before - Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were less-known than Biden, and managed to make themselves the story and go on to win the nomination.
I just don't get the complaints that the media are to blame. Getting media attention is a large part of running for President, and those who suck at it rightly don't get the attention.
Ya know I love you, Bonobo, but I just think you're wrong on this. If your guy had won, you wouldn't have any complaints.

12. Thanks, pal. I think you are a bit naive about the direction of the cause and effect here. |
|
But I always respect your opinion. You're one of the most level headed posters.

Is Ole Saviour deserving of the same media attention as Barack Obama? Are the media obligated to ignore what people are interested in in order to serve some mythic need to treat everyone equally?

Now it looks like the Republicans are turning towards McCain, the one with experience. We could have had someone with experience, but nooooo. That would go against "hop" and "change."
