10. "Max has made the best of very bad situations"
Exactly and something like that speaks volumes for a human being.
When you are in deep shit, when one sees his life shattered like Cleland it is easy to give up and easy to moan.Coming back and never stopping to at least trying to improve the situation insted of just taking it is impressive. One couldn't expect more of a human being.
Not only that but also appearing content and having a positive aura around himself is a remarkable trait of Cleland that deserves the greatest respect.

4. Pete, your last paragraph clearly and concisely
and accurately defines the man. Your true description is the reason conservatives would never hug him. He fought for us and is discarded by "compassionate" conservatives and those who live "religious" lives in our country. Thanks for the post.

5. On his first trip to DC after being wounded
to lobby for veterans benefits, his wheelchair hit a curb and he fell flat on his face.

He got up to become the head of the VA and a US Senator from Georgia. And he will fight for Kerry until the last poll closes on Nov. 2.

Max Cleland is a great and giving man. He deserves all the love he can get.

7. What they did
to him was a disgrace. Chambliss and Bush are gutless. And Ann Coulter as Donna Brazil said "needs a transplant. A heart transplant."

9. Max Cleland does this a lot, someone else here also
told of how their brother, or friend who was in the military and going to leave for iraq went to a kerry rally and met kerry and cleland and both guys gave him a hug and talked to him. others have talked about it also. i'm sure he feels close to all military people even if he doesn't know them personally and has a lot of respect for them.

11. The Comradeship and hugs are the result
of common experience. Its an incredible feeling to see a shipmate or a fellow servicemember return from a combat situation and hugs are certainly in order. Its so sad that Chickenhawks will never know that feeling, that emotion, that love.

12. I love Max Cleland
and I will be so happy he's in Kerry's administration and he can heal this country with many band of brothers and sisters with families that need to be uplifted from despair!

Thank you Max Cleland for reaching out and being the fine gentleman you are!
A win in November 2004 is a win for all of us! :-)

Why the goddamhell did he not challenge that totally rigged Diebold election that cost him his Senate seat?

Why, why, why is he not speaking out on this issue?

20. Max is a hero
in every sense of the word. A grenade may have taken his limbs, the right wing smear machine may have taken his job, but he's letting nothing take his honor. He's a figther against adversity and I admire that.

23. Repugs and Ann Coulter are all f***ng bitchwhore c*nts.
Reading that article made me want to cry and beat the living crap out of Chambliss and Coulter at the same time.

I mean can you imagine having your legs and an arm blown off for your country in an unjust war, then having some vile, cunt-whore bitch like Coulter or a chickenhawk like Chambliss question your patriotism and commitment to security?? How much more evil and heartless can you get?!

I would love to meet Max. He's worked so hard over the years for us vets. When my father (a WWII vet) became ill in 1979, and went to the Veterans Hospital in Portland, the place was small, over crowded, and lacked much of the newer medical equipment that other hospitals had. On the hill behind it was rising the skeleton of a new Veterans Hospital. That new hospital - and 8 others around the country - are the legacy of Max Cleland's tenure as head of the Veterans Administration.

My father died five years later, in the new Veterans hospital. He'd had care that was second to none; it's a credit to the Dr.s & RNs that they kept him alive as long as they did. And they couldn't have done it without the equipment and the facility that Max had fought to build.

I would love to have an opportunity someday to tell Max personally that I love him.
