Cynthia McKinney vindicated (again -- another issue)
As some of you may recall, the "reasons" for McKinney's loss to Denise Majette were roundly discussed and debated here at DU. One of the reasons she lost, we supporters claimed, was the influx of AIPAC money to help defeat her. Many, many people denounced even the idea of it (and it didn't help that her father, who IS something of an anti-Semite, had to spill the beans on the subject to the media in offensive terms). Now, let me hasten to say that I am certain that AIPAC money wasn't the only reason for her defeat and, in fact, no one ever claimed that. For example, I myself heard Rush Limbaugh exhorting his listeners in Gwinnett County to go engage in crossover voting to help defeat her.

Anyway, here's validation of the claims by the McKinney campaign:

AMERICA DECIDES 2004
In 2004, U.S. Jewish fund raising shifts
to supporting — not unseating — incumbents
By Matthew E. Berger

WASHINGTON, Feb. 16 (JTA) — It was a big deal two years ago, when Jewish money helped unseat two incumbent Democratic lawmakers viewed as anti-Israel.

snip

Jewish backing for challengers of incumbents in Democratic primaries made national news in 2002, when Jewish support for Denise Majette in Georgia and Artur Davis in Alabama helped unseat U.S. Reps. Cynthia McKinney and Earl Hilliard respectively.

The Jewish community won respect for its role in pushing aside anti-Israel legislators.

But a race in which Jews mobilize to unseat an incumbent only happens once every decade, a senior Jewish political analyst said.

Now facing their first election as incumbents, both Majette and Davis are expected to receive continued donations from Jewish supporters.

2. Cynthia McKinney lost because
she had sympathy with the scum who crashed airplanes into the wtc!

If any Democrat supports her agenda not only will they lose big time, but you will have Democrats crossing over.

Blame it on the Jews instead of what her positions were is pure scape-goating!

5. A lie
Cynthia McKinney did not in the least sympathize with the terrorists.

Unlike the government that has covered up everything about 9/11, she wanted to know what really happened.

Objections?

13. LOL -- are you accusing the Palestinians for 9-11???
Or saying she had sympathy with the Bush administration??

Or what, exactly, IS your point? And while you're at it -- how 'bout lining up some links to support your inflammatory and ridiculous claims, whatever they are.

4. How does the race look to be shaping up? Has Majette weakened
or solidified her position?
It's really ironic that so much that CM was ridiculed for is now taken for granted.:)

6. Cynthia McKinney also appeared
in a documentary about some international financial wrongdoing. (I forget the exact details--it was a couple of years ago.)

You couldn't have someone like that in public office. She had to be disgraced, lest she start making people aware what was going on.

14. Thank you, yes!
That was the scandal I was thinking of.

Any Congresscritter who had something on the Bush family would have to be voted out by hook or by crook.

8. Money Talks
McKinney was right about where some money came from. But why does it matter in the broader sense?

Maybe she should be asking herself why she was vulnerable in the first place.

I used to live in Barbara Lee's district. She was one of the few Congresspeople to stand up to the Chimp regime at a time when the proletariat was in lockstep behind "our great leader." She will win re-election because she is a congresswoman who is loved and respected by a majority of her constituents.

McKinney should do a little self reflection to figure out where she lost her ties to her own constituency.

15. The JTA often confuses supporters of Israeli policy with Jews...
it's quite common among both the right-wing Jewish press and anti-semitic propaganda.

Strange...

A little more on subject, I think Cynthia McKinney was defeated mainly because the GOP couldn't stand her and got a number of Republican voters to cross over. The "pro-Israel" lobby played a part too, but the real smear campaign didn't come until after the primary.

16. McKinney got more actual votes in her LOSS
in the primary than she did when she WON her previous general election. The Rethugs solved two problems with the crossover push--they got rid of a smartass Dem who was questioning what Pres. Shitstain knew about 9-11, and also a hardass Constitutionalist (Bob Barr) who refused to fall in line on the Patriot Act.
