The HYPOCRISY OF JOHN KERRY and one on one debates!
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 12:43 PM by Skinner
John Kerry challenged Howard Dean to one on one debates when Dean was the frontrunner and he didn't bring up AL SHARPTON OR DENNIS KUCINICH, or the other 6 candidates who were running at the time, so why are he AND HIS SUPPORTERS complaining and saying that Edwards is disrespecting Sharpton and Kucinich who don't have 1% of a chance of winning, by challenging Kerry to one on one debates???

Why didn't you bring them up then KING FLIP FLOP, John Kerry???

You sound like a chicken to me!

Kerry challenges Dean to one-on-one debate

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (AFP) - US Senator John Kerry, once tipped as the man to beat in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, on Sunday challenged the actual frontrunner, former Vermont governor Howard Dean, to a one-on-one debate.

"Let's have a debate. And let's talk about the real issues for the country and show people the differences between us," Kerry said on CBS television.

His comments came in response to a question about recent comments ascribed to Dean in which the former Vermont governor reportedly wished that Kerry would say to his face the kind of stinging, critical comments that he has made about him on the campaign trail.

Kerry took those remarks as a dare.

"I welcome Governor Dean's challenge. If he wants a challenge and he wants us to go face-to-face, I accept," the Massachusetts Democrat said.

The story was also in the Boston Globe in October 2003.

So, you all have SHORT MEMORIES?

You criticized Edwards for challenging Kerry one on one when you KNOW that Kucinich and Sharpton have never had a chance.

Kerry challenged Dean one on one and CLARK, EDWARDS, AND GEPHARDT were still in the race, but now he brings up Kucinich and Sharpton when Edwards challenges him???

Talk about hypocrisy!!!

2. When you're in the lead you just don't
Think about it for a minute, if you had a shot to be President, if you were in the lead to be the nominee of a major party, would you take risks? Because that's what a one-on-one debate is for the front runner. Sure, if he won the debates, he would be fine, but if he lost, he would lose so much. Think about retiring from public life after that..."i could have been president, but I was stupid enough to allow my challenger to have a one on one debate."

8. It's all irrelevant.
Kerry challenged Dean to a one on one debate, and now he brings up others when he is challenged.

It is hypocrisy at it's finest.

He wasn't responding to anything.

I wish I could find the boston globe article.

It was less flattering...

16. Hmmmm - I think this may be his school project
:silly: he does not have to reap the "rewards" of voting.

4. The difference is
"His comments came in response to a question about recent comments ascribed to Dean in which the former Vermont governor reportedly wished that Kerry would say to his face the kind of stinging, critical comments that he has made about him on the campaign trail."

When Kerry starts calling Edwards a "Republican", Kerry should accept Edwards challenge.

5. No...Kerry ACCEPTED DEan's challenge to state his case FACE TO FACE
instead of what Dean depicted as behind his back. Kind of silly, considering Dean was smearing Kerry for most of last year as "Bushlite" and a corrupt Washington insider behind his back.

15. You are correct - Dean mocked Kerry about a debate
and Kerry responded by challenging Dean to put his mouth where his money was. Or, something like that.

6. I'm angry at BOTH of them.
Signed : A KUCINICH SUPPORTER WHOSE VOTE ONE OF THESE TWO MIGHT WANT IN NOVEMBER...

Both of them are acting undemocratically AND unDemocratically.

Way to piss people off, not recommended if you later want our votes.

7. How is that?
How is it undemocratic for them to debate without any of the other candidates? It doesn't cut into the already scheduled debates that the other candidats have been invited to, and isn't it pretty undemocratic to suggest that candidates aren't free to associate and speak to/with whomever they choose?

The voters themselves can decide for themselves if they want to vote for the candidate based on the debate decisions they make, so why limit their freedom to debate whomever they want to?

25. Not disingenous
I have no idea why candidates exercising their own rights, and their own judgement, is seen by you as undemocratic. Candidates can debate (or not) whomever they want, and the voters can make their decisions on who to support based on the decisions the candidates make.

I can see why you don't agree with this decision, but I really don't see how it is undemocratic. IMO, your rhetoric is unjustified

9. Personally, I think Kerry would LOVE to debate ANY other politician.
He was debate champ at Yale, a prosecutor, and won the series of debates with William Weld that many political junkies consider the greatest debates of the last half-century.

If you think he's chickenshit, you don't know Kerry.

He is also on a limited amount of time to campaign in many states at the same time. He will do whatever it takes to make appearances in those states. He aims to win.

12. Yes, isn't that something?
The underdog always wants to get into a debate with the frontrunner. Dean wasn't interested in debating until he started to fall behind, then he changes his tune. Of course, so did Kerry.

But it's not because he can't debate, he most certainly can. I'm sure GWB isn't looking forward to it.
