Poll question: Will the effort of some DUers to smear Obama be successful?
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 11:17 AM by Katzenkavalier
After all what we have seen lately, it's just fair to ask.

1. No. Most of us are ducking the poo flying around this place.
I don't think it's sticking to any of the candidates. Maybe some of the posters....

2. The DU comminuity is neither large enough nor representative enough...
...for much of what happens on DU to resonate very far off of DU.

6. I am frankly getting completely disgusted with those that say the Obama supporters are vile
I have been on DU consistently since the beginning of the primary season and it is the hillary supporters who make vile, loathsome comments in response to any legitimate question regarding their candidates positions. That tactic, in and of itself, is despicable. Then they spam that Obama supporters are engaging in dirty tactics and hate speak. It is turning me off from the entire election cycle and certainly from participating on DU. I noticed that some of the worst offenders went away for awhile, but now they are back full force. Its become very uncomfortable to post here.

9. Can't disagree with you there.
Months ago, when I posted in reasonable tones about my specific disagreements with some of Senator Clinton's policy positions, I got piled-on as a "Hillary Hater." They're like fundamentalist Christians - hamming up the wounded puppy act to create a position of power from which to bully an entire community. There's no way to have a discussion with that going on - even when rational discussion happens here, flamers bury it.

That said, a lot of Obama supporters on DU have been adopting some pretty rancid rhetorical tactics, too. As far as groups of supporters taken as a whole are concerned, no-one is entirely innocent of ugliness on DU this Primary season, and the accusations of who started it (like *that* matters) invariably and predictably end up flung at the opposite group. This has already gotten FAR uglier than the Deaniacs vs. Clarkies wars here in '04. And, like Dean and Clark in '04, I think both of the polarizing candidates this time suck, too.

10. I'll have to agree
that the Hillary supporters are some of the most unpleasant people I've seen... every bit as bad as the chimpbots... not just what we see on DU, but also some of the emails that get sent around. Given that, and Hillary's association with questionable characters and corporations, and poor voting record, has caused me to vow not to ever vote for her. Go ahead and flame away, Hillarybots, my skin is much thicker than yours... and you have brought this on your candidate. Perhaps the lesson will sink in and a better campaign can be waged on her behalf in 2016.

15. It is BOTH sides- you just cannot see the shit being flung from your own side
Please do not fall for these divisive tactics.

There are a small but vocal group in each of the camps. They are doing their best to divide and conquer and tricking some DUers into falling for their BS. Most of DU is not like this and wants to have debate without the shit-slinging.

See it for what it is-- disruptors, for whatever reason, working their asses off to divide this community.

13. NO- DU is smarter then that- just a few people take it and run with it and they won't stay here long
After a good night's sleep I wake up to realize that DU is better and smarter then all of this. There are a few people spaqmming up the boards, using emotional responses to create in-fighting.

The majority of DU is smarter and does not fall for this. Those who do will either wake up soon and realize they are being played or they will eventually leave DU.

I have faith in the intelligence and fairness of the DU community and perhaps those of us (the majority of DU) who refuse to play this game will start speaking up more OR collectively shun these people with the ignore function.

16. Don't do this Katz. Don't go there
just because a certain Clinton supporter who once supposedly backed Richardson did an even uglier poll, doesn't mean you should stoop to that level.
