They were lively, feisty and had a great personality. Especially compared to the empty suit in chief.

that was especially weak but not nearly as bad as his attempt to claim some crossover votes. I had to turn away that was so painful to watch.

16. I guess you're pro-death penalty, then. But that's cool. |
|
It was a substantive answer by Kerry on an important issue with which I happen to agree with him and disagree with Edwards.
Isn't that what debates are SUPPOSED to show us??

19. yes it is and we did get a little of that tonight |

I still don't get why its is OK to off terrorists but not child killers. Its possible to be wrong with either of them.
Seems to me you are either for or against. But like you say, to each his own.
A four way time split is better than 7-10 way splits but its really past time to get down to two. Nothing against the others but many people have some serious thinking to do that does not involve Dennis or Al.

keep Kucinich and Al in for diversity's sake. Kerry and Edwards get enough media coverage as it is...

as the front runner, he wins if he doesn't screw up; he didn't
addition: he did more than not screw up, he was relaxed and in control, he was great

His answers were clear, concise, workable and he was humble and animated. Furthermore, he gave far more than lipservice to progressive issues.

10. Kerry - for the foreign policy segment alone |
|
I realized that this was not Edwards forte, but I expected more than what he showed there.
No way would he best * with the election campaign framed as a referendum on the war (which it will be, of course).

Kerry showed tonite the depth & breath of his knowledge.
On the Haiti question, he showed why he is ready to be President, & Edwards isn't.

13. I voted Sharpton, but wanted to change to a draw. |
|
Actually there was some really sucky moderation....
...these guys where trying to egg on a fight, and Larry King calling Kucinich a socialist..... (crowd reaction was interesting to that).
All in all I thought Sharpton did pretty good, Kucinich was sort of shut out, and the focus seemed to be on Edwards & Kerry so as to try to make some distinctions.
Gauging from the crowd reacion it seems that Kucinich and Sharpton won as they got alot of applause.
Kerry did pretty good. Edwards was sort of on the hotseat, but came across alot better in the second half.

It was a wonderful display of party unity, Democratic aspirations, and dealing with the hard realities. All great, as far as I'm concerned. However, I was a little surprised by Edwards reaction on the VP question. His good humored statement that Kerry would be under consideration on an Edwards/Kerry ticket sounded almost like a concession that the ticket would probably be Kerry/fill-in-VP-here. I'd be thrilled with a Kerry/Clark ticket, but I do have to admit that Kerry and Edwards look great together.

....although the format could have been better (it was conducive to frequent interruptions by the candidates, the questioners, and the moderator), I thought the debate overall was good and productive. I enjoy the exchange of ideas (and the Bush bashing).

It was so much looser and yet somehow more focused. I think it was because it was more a discussion than a series of speeches.
